Subject: navi kriya

Navi kriya is mentioned in the powers chapter of yoga sutras by Patanjali but I have read it also serves to eliminate fear. I am one of those not initiated in it by my guru. I have heard about it in other lines. An exersize is a means to an energetic end and I believe I have needed to awaken this energy and have by the following methods.

agni sara in energizations
meditating on the guru's willpower
occasional gayatri prayers when in sun

Swami Rama was big on agni sara which is fanning the fire of the navel or lumbar chakra by pumping the stomach up and into the ribcage. Rama says it is the most important exersize in hatha and powerfully helps one overcome the 4 primitive urges: survival, sleep (1st chakra) and sex and food (2nd chakra). In that tradition only when a aspirant is truly regulated in his life and beyond emotional troubles is he allowed to meditate on ajna chakra. Gayatri is a big part of the early practice along with agni sara.

Yukteswar advises Yogananda in autobiography to do the agni sara, though it is admittedly mainly for digestion troubles. This is a noted physical effect by all. The same exersize is at the tail end of energization. Thus the area is exersized before meditation after all without navi.

It has been my experience that until a yogi harnesses his willpower to the goal, no one can really do much for him. Turiyananda told me "I prayed to saints for years with little effect. I had to learn to use my own will power. 3 things he recomended for this willpower...
1. energizations 2-3x a day 30 reps each
2. martial arts (he did swordsmanship and tai-chi--often on the Lake shrine lawn in the dawn hours)
3. get the biggest picture of Master you can get and sit up close to it and concentrate on it (absorb his aspects, not beggary)
Turiyananda cured himself of a terminal cancer using the energization exersizes as above. At one stretch he was doing them many times a day. Thats what I heard, he didnt say it. I read Keshabananda did maha mudra by the score. Well, with Turiyananda it was the energizations. He was adamant you could get God with them alone. You get such control of the prana you put it on the sahasrar and its there.
I say this for Turiyananda was the man of the will, and he became a saint by it. He shifted himself from a ruffian to a saint miraculously. We still hear stories of it today. The man had God consciousness.
Will has to be truly harnessed before devotion, love, guru attunement, etc.
