"It is very well known the Yogananda practice kechari mudra himself."

The fact that he had mastered kechari, but chose not to make it a requirement for higher kriyas, is significant, I agree.

"It is also known that the kriya yoga he bought to America was a modification of the original kriya of Lahiri."

Known by whom? Where is the evidence? Satyeswarananda?....a man who claims to have personally spent more time with Babaji than Lahiri? And yet I have seen other posts by individuals who claim to be "traditional," stating that the method of SRF's first kriya is practised by some "traditional" lines in India. Everyone repeats this urban legend about how Yoganandaji changed Kriya. I believe it is possible he made some minor modifications, but Yoganandaji stated he was teaching Lahiri's Kriya Yoga. I have not seen any credible evidence of substantial changes to the first Kriya.

"The higher kriyas that SRF teaches have been modified as has been well documented in Swami 's books and by several others."

Granted, the higher kriyas in SRF are somewhat different...the SRF 2nd Kriya is a bit unique in technique, although in function it is an omkar Kriya... SRF 3rd and 4th are analogous to the "traditional" 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Satyeswarananda was mistaken about some other differences.

I assume that Yogananda was assured, being a master of kechari himself, that the higher Kriyas would work without kechari, since he did not make it a requirement.
