I wasn't sure what was going to happen in the last five minutes either. I had those doubts, "are they going to kill off an opening credit character?" Over the course of these opening episodes, I wondered about all those allusions to the power mad Jayne. And I saw little, if any, evidence of why. Finally, they show us what kind of a self-serving bastard he can be. I wonder if this was something that was originally set up in the first pilot? Because it is not something you can keep going back to three times a season and keep him on the crew. I'm probably being overly optimistic that this will last a full season, let alone two. But I digress.

All that "don't trust Jayne" stuff finally pays off, and we get to see Mal do a little connect the dots, and a little threatened oxygen deprivation to get Jayne to confess. Let's face it. There wasn't exactly a lot of evidence to hang Jayne with. But Doc singing his praises must have been a huge red flag.
