I think it's about time we all realized something: we are not average television viewers. There are just not that many people out there who demand that their entertainment be challenging, dramatically sound, and philosophically provocative.

Most people would rather veg out with a favorite beverage.

This means that, to survive, any ME show has to attract at least some people who are not really its target audience. I think Joss is fine with this, because of his subversive intent. He doesn't really need to invade our dreams, but he would love to get into those of some of the "veg with the beverage" crowd.

This also means that the deck is stacked against our favorite shows. If a Buffy or an Angel survives, it's against all odds and we've been incredibly lucky.

If Firefly does the same, Joss has pulled a hat trick (3 for 3), and should go to Vegas.

We're lucky we've gotten this much of the show. It's not real likely we will get much more of it.
