I really enjoyed this ep, just for the laughs and the Simon/Kaylee parts. They're exceedingly cute.

As for the faith thing, I'm not sure what the precise point of it was, but I didn't feel like it was saying that Jayne's a fake, and so is the Bible. "It's about letting it change you," Book says of faith, and it really is. River's attempt to "fix" the Bible also reminded me of how some people *do* try to make the Bible fit scientific paradigms, and it just doesn't work that way. Reason and faith aren't incompatible, but sometimes you just have to accept that they're not the same thing and to stop trying to shoehorn them into the same mold.

Totally agree on Simon. He got to exhibit so much more personality this week. The clash of cultures between himself and Kaylee was so much fun to watch. He thinks he's being respectful; she thinks he really needs to loosen up. It was good to see them really talking to each other at the end, trying to understand where each was coming from. They're just so *cute*!

Book's hair: since that ponytail's been bothering me from ep 1, I laughed and laughed and laughed at the "Sproing!" hair and River's reaction to it. Nice to see her actually talking!

Inara's scene with the young man: he was so sweet! And she was sweet with him. It was very tastefully done. I really, really liked her firmly escorting his idiot father from her shuttle. And telling the young man that this didn't make him a man--only he could do that. And he did.

All in all, a fun evening.
