The swelling crowd of dark-minded equines further tested the gilded matriarch's patience. The burbling cacaphony of whines and questions, whispered undertones and sidebar conversations, converged on her brain, causing the stressed organ to throb its displeasure. The myriad scents, the fear and confusion for some, excitement and elation for others, assaulted her nostrils, making Tori wish fervently that she could conveniently disable her sense of smell. All she needed was a few answers from the man of the moment, much like the writhing mass of equines before her. Her rank as a lowly captive would not serve to garner answers any more quickly than the others, so she held her tongue, refraining from calling out above the din. Shielding Genesis from any accidental bumps or kicks, Tori maneuvered the milky filly between herself and Annalee, protecting her from all that she could. She hadn't liked Adrian's tone or insinuation when he had spoken of Genesis, a tone Tori had come to know meant trouble. Standing firmly between Annalee and Shazaam, with Genesis flanking her, Tori kept playing the game she had become a pro at while in Dark Evergreens -- the infamous, and always tedious, Waiting Game.

Finding herself sandwiched between her mother and the chestnut-hued Annalee, Gen watched the proceedings with ill-disguised disgust. Haughtily turning her nose away from the hubbub, she prodded carelessly at her mother's belly, figuring if she had to stand here and be bored silly, the least she could get out of it was a meal. It didn't cross her mind to be concerned about the skinny bay's words, having the childlike assurance that her mother, and perhaps Annalee, would protect her from all harm. She couldn't see herself as what Adrian probably saw her as -- a pawn to bend her mother to his will or bring her yet-unknown father to his knees.

Surprised by Gen's nonchalant attitude towards the entire situation, Tori calmed marginally. She sharply smothered the urge to roll her eyes -- Adrian should have known that Firelight would never turn down the chance to grab more power. And Dagger? Tori didn't know the stallion well enough to make judgements. Her only encounter with him had been confusing, but not hostile. Firelight on the other hand was a more persistent thorn in the Light's proverbial side. Not a thorn so much but a mosquito that, when swatted away and semi-crushed, would only buzz back in for further irritation. Snorting harshly, Tori dropped her head to rub against Gen's baby-fine pelt, letting her irritation and frustrations be rinsed away by the downy feel and soft scent of the youngster.
