The stippled filly examined this golden creature warily, trenchantly, before uttering a skeptical, "Hi."

With firm hands, she wrestled with her aggressive misanthropy. Why were her antagonisms so spontaneous, so uncontrollable? This fellow hadn't committed any unforgivable sins, she reminded herself. He hadn't brandished one of those trite pickup lines that seemed so popular among those of the y chromosome, he hadn't pretended to agree with her in that particularly nasty, ingratiating manner, or danced and curled in a display of hauteur and ostentation. He hadn't even asked for her name. His very comportment, though seemingly convivial, was like a network of ambiguity. Psyche was impressed.

"How do you do that?" After weeks of acid and ice, Psyche condescended to unwind the thread of pleasant conversation. And anyway, she was always more comfortable around those that didn't insinuate themselves at her feet. "I mean, that whole 'hello' thing was perfect."
