Labor in the New Era
-economic growth also caused maldistribution of wealth & purchasing power
-some industrial workers living standara rose & some declinded
*Wlefare Capitalism
-Welfare CApitalism: labor unrest& forstall growth of independent trade unions, adaopted paternalistic techniques
-some workers became eligiable for pension on retirement
-company unions made a union some that workers could supposably voice problems
-capitlism gave workers economic benifits
-workers got a wage increase but only by a little
-in 1920s workers remained impoverished and powerless
-unempolyment was lower in 1920s then in the 2 decades before
*Hard Times for Organized Labor
-new era was a bleek time for labor unions'
-unions became conservative & failed to adapt to modern
economy
-William Green became president of the AFL
-he was commited to peaceful cooperation w/ empolyers
