B. Britain – wanted to first launch a series of Allied offensives in North Africa and Southern Europe
1. Roosevelt was torn – he did not know what plan to go through with
a. decided to support British
b. At Kasserine Pass, Tunisia – Germany defeated America
C. Stalingrad
1. 1942-1943 – Red Army successfully held off Germans at Stalingrad

Stabilizing the Boom
A. Office of Price Administration (OPA)
1. October 1942 – Congress passed Anti-Inflation Act
a. gave administration authority to freeze agricultural prices
b. OPA was greatly resented
c.1941-1949 – government spent $321 billion
d. raised income tax in order to get money through Revenue Act of 1942
