Spectator Sports
*Major League Baseball
-baseball was on its way to be our nations pastime
-after civil war baseball became very popular
-and it became a source of profit
-1903 first World Series was played
*Football
-second popular gane
-appealed to males
-it orginated in colleges and universities
-spread to other colleges\
-it was a violent sport
-a confrence was held and rules were in placed to make the game safer
*Basketball
-invented in 1891
*Boxing
-remained illegal in some states
*Gambling Sports
-spectator sports came closely associated with gambiling
-baseball,football all ahd thier incidents(gambling) go public
-horse racing establishing odds and taking bets
*Other Sports
-golf and tennis were not that popular at first but ncrease b/c wealthy people took intrest
-women colleges introduced sports:track,crew,swimming,& basketball
-that challenged the thought vigorus exercise for women was bad
