Trying to evaluate horses from a single photo is like trying to determine what a person really looks like from their driver's license photo. The good points are overshadowed by the bad points.

Having said that, she is a beautiful mare. Her short topline, well rounded hindquarters and correctly sloping shoulder are all well proportioned to present a pleasing outline. She has excellent muscling in her shoulder and gaskin. The neck is long, well tapered and ties into her head with a fairly clean throat latch. She has an interested expression but from the photo her eyes cannot be accurately evaluated. Her buttock/hock/ankle alignment is good in the photo and is probably just about perfect in an onsite inspection.

To me there are only two points where she may need some work. Her stifle is a little too straight vertically and she looks a little weak in the loin area. Had she been standing squarely, her legs would stand out as being straight and clean. The ground she is standing on is not solid does not appear to be level. So, it is difficult to make an accurate assessment of her stance because she may have been compensating for unevenness or soft spots.

She must be a very good performer otherwise she wouldn’t have earned 55.5 AQHA points. If you are looking for a competition horse, she should do well because that many points says she is an experienced show veteran.

Good Luck,
Jim

What do you think of this mare? She has 55.5 AQHA
