I am looking for Info on the conformation of >the jumper, what to look for when purchasing a jumper >etc. If any one couldhelp that would be very >apreceited. Thanks. I am no expert, but I thinkt that people like for a jumper to be built uphill, have a somewhat upright, high headset, (as opposed to a hunter. Also, I think that a somewhat steep croup is more acceptable in jumpers than in other sporthorse conformation. A strong back/ls joint is also very favorable. Although I also think this the following is a conformational fault, I think hind legs that are a little overly straight are preferred to those that are sicle-hocked, as sickle hocks don't hold up to pressure as well. Long, weak pasterns would be a problem. People also like to see some substance of bone on jumpers. Finally, most people hate to see a jumper be back at the knee. I personally think that that fault is most dangerous for racehorses, and upper-level eventing, but that for most low-to intermediate level horses it is not that big of a deal. However, one must consider what the market will accept and potential resale value. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
