An upside down neck means the horse will not jump round over his fences. Look for a nice head with a large dark eye, any white means the horse will be suspicious in nature(unless he is an Apaloosa). A long sloping shoulder will give you a good stride length, and a short back will ensure the horse can adjust his stride readily. The hip should be long from the croup to the hock. The hind legs are critical, they should be straight and you should be able to draw a line from the point of the buttocks along the back of the hind leg straight to the ground. Make sure horse is not cow hocked(hocks turned in), sickle hocked(hocks in front of the straight line) or camped out(hocks behind the straight line). Pasterns should not be too upright, but should not be really slopey either. Front legs should be straight and look for a horse with good bone development as his legs will take the punishment of jumping better. Hello! I am looking for Info on the conformation of >the jumper, what to look for when purchasing a jumper >etc. If any one couldhelp that would be very >apreceited. Thanks.
