Subject: Incredible find in the mail this morning

I got a letter this morning from someone writing to me at my office and it had three stamps on it. One was a modern every-day stamp, the other two had King Goerge VI on them! They were Canadian two cent stamps from before 1952. They were yellowed around the edge, but had no post mark on them, so they had obviously never been used. They were also honoured by Canada Post as paid up stamps.

Amazing to find over 50 year old stamps being used on a letter today. Why would someone part with them? Never mind, they are part of my stamp collection now. What an unusual find!

I was wondering, were it not for the modern stamp, if Canada Post were trying to beat the Royal Mail's record in a late delivery!

:D

Though, it's more likely to beat Royal Mail's record on early delivery ;)

We make fun of the Royal Mail a lot, but try living over here... A friend of mine last week received the birthday card which I sent him in good time from Italy to Britain. His birthday was at the beginning of August. A bassa le Poste Italiane!
On the other hand, when I lived in India I would receive parcels sent from Britain within ten days, sometimes less, and that was to get to a small monastic settlement in the middle of the jungle more than 100 miles from the nearest town with a sorting office. The legacy of Empire, do you think?

The two old stamps would only be four cents, when 49 cents is required!
