Date Posted: 15:42:51 10/30/04 Sat As a South African, although a naturalised Brit these days and proud of it, I can state categorically that we left mainly because of loonies like that! Note also the interesting fact that Mr De Boer's comments were largely incoherent for speakers of English. The Boeremense are not just offensive racists but also primitive savages who make the native populations of South Africa seem like the most sophisticated exemplars of the European aristocratic tradition. When we first took the Cape during the Napoleonic conflict, we tried to treat them as just another African tribe, and they didn't like it one bit; but I think, as recent history has shown, we were right. A South African mate of mine once told me a story about his grandfather, when he first fled Nazi Germany for the safety of the Empire and ended up in Jo'Burg. He set himself up as a travelling salemen going round the Dutch/Boer farms in the veldt around Transvaal. One night, he ended up very late at the house of a Boer family, and as weather conditions were deteriorating he offered them a few shillings to put him up for the night and give him dinner (Boers don't give you anything gratis). Over dinner, it came up in the conversation that he was Jewish, at which point the family asked him to remove his shoes, with great interest and exitement. He eyed them cautiously, and asked why. They said that they wanted to see his cloven hooves, as they had never met a genuine demon before. If I thought that 'white South Africans' (read: Boers) were to have anything to do with this Federation, I would refuse to have any part in it. The FC is an organisation to bring together the british nation which has been fractured by twentieth century history; it is not a society for White Nationalists who were booted out of power by the ANC; and it is not about bringing in alien, former subject-peoples whose political culture is a distasteful anathema to our own.
