] Date Posted: 18:30:40 12/24/04 Fri In reply to: Jim (Canada) 's message, "Premier of Newfoundland bans the Maple Leaf Flag" on 16:15:45 12/24/04 Fri This is odd. This would seem to indicate that the Maple Leaf flag is more a symbol of the Canadian Federal Government, than the nation itself. I would not expect this. Is this a widely held view? Perhaps he never liked the flag in the first place, or is there a seperatist movement there also? [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: 19:47:09 12/24/04 Fri Newfoundland does have a separatist movement, but it's very small. This province is very British and proud of the monarchy and the Union Jack. The Premier ordered this as a protest against the Federal Government of Canada. The maple leaf flag in Newfoundland is seen as the flag of the federal government rather than the nation. Newfoundlanders tend to associate more with the Union Jack. They also feel short-changed by Ottawa. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
