However, the controversy is more about parochial nationalism than practicality, and my sardonic suggestion was merely aimed at getting up the noses of the aforementioned. Besides, most of the buildings in question have only one flag pole. If there were more flagpoles, there would be no excuse for their arguments, unless of course they would change tack, and demand two saltires. Their motive is not so much to see the saltire, as to eradicate the Union Flag, so such an approach would not appease them.

To use your analogy, it would be like the Bloc Qu�b�cois accepting the Maple Leaf and Quebec flag flying side by side with pride.
