Amen!!!

As a judge, I've seen lots of bands march up to the line and very seldom have I been surprised to see either a smart looking band sound bad, or a bad looking mob sound good. Smart D&D sets a tone for the judges -- most tend to think that if you're taking care of these kind of details, you probably are taking care of musical details, too, and that can give you the benefit of the doubt that could decide whether you make the prize list. You NEVER see SFU come up with straggly ranks, dirty shoes, soiled shirts or wrinkled kilts. But you see lots of Podunk Highlanders coming up that way and they play like it, too.

Also, while most non-pipers or drummers may not be able to differentiate the technical excellence from band to band, they all recognize when a band looks good or not.

Under Kevin's direction, we are looking a lot more like SFU than the Podunk Highlanders, and our playing is improving at the same time.

Chris
