You first need the new drivers for your v-card. Get them from nvidia or ATI.

Then what you said before is correct. Right click desktop, settings, advanced, then you should see multiple tabs from your videocard manufacturer. I personally have the ATI radeon 7500, therefore you click on display, turn on the TV option.

To get motion, you need to click another button which sets either display as teh main display. You're all set from here.
