What about the folks who suffer?

Are the plaintiffs supposed to just "tough it out?"

I saw a story on CNN the other day about a five-year old girl permanently brain-damaged to do faulty hospital care at birth.

With the President's proposal, her litigation would have to be capped at $250,000.00 for damages. Her medicine ALONE is $1,000.00 a month. So she'd be limited to 250 months of living, or less than 21 years. Nevermind the added expense of raising a child with the disabilities she'll have to live with while at least one of her parents stays home (or they hire a professional caregiver).

What about the little girl Sen. John Edwards (D-NC) fought for years ago? Her intestines were literally yanked out of her body when a public swimming pool attendant wrongly left the pool's pumps on while she was wading in the pool. $250,000.00 wouldn't take care of one year of what's necessary for her to survive.

"Tort reform" is a fancy Fox News label for "spare the insurance companies and big business." Trivial suits are the ones that need to be wiped away... suing McDonalds for hot coffee on your lap... that's the sort of suit that needs to be "reformed" of the court dockets.

To hell w/insurance companies and big businesses not owning up to their mistakes and shortcomings.
