I've judged many SB prelims. Clothing IS NOT judged, but overall appearance is... meaning it doesn't matter what kind of dress or how expensive... It need to FIT, be a good COLOR and your child needs to be well put together. I've seen children at some prelims with no shoes (really!!), messy hair (like it hadn't even been brushed), too big/small clothes, etc. I think, overall, the kids that do best have great personalities and look and BEHAVE like they may be going to church. My daughter went to prelims & did so well also; ALL ANTURAL. Then when you go to STATE watch out! $1000 pictures Full Glitz Dresses, Flippers, Tanning: At Nationals 10x worse: We spent the $$$ to go to STate and National Director told us it would be NATURAL: IT WAS FULL GLITZ @ STATE!!
