The Ride That Almost Was

After such a beautiful day Saturday, we just knew that Sunday would be a knockout, boy was it a knockout.

When we arrived at the dealership the weather was cloudy and overcast and the threat of rain was high. But, #117 was not to be deterred. We had 15 bikes and I'm not sure how many people turn out for the ride. After a word from our president, Dan "The flying Parts Man" Findley, we had our safety briefing and a quick word from our ride captain Mr.John Coleman. Once these activities were completed the ride began.

We should have known that this was going to be a weird day. Right off the bat, I almost got taken out by a Volkswagen right in front of the dealership while trying to hold traffic so the group could pull out. After that close call we proceeded on to our first stop, Lucky 13 Truck Stop. Everything was going well and everyone was in good spirits and looking forward to the days ride. Due to the cool temperatures and possibility of rain we were making plans to stop at Wal-Mart so that some folks could pick-up some things before we proceeded on.

We left Lucky13 bound for Defuniak Springs, we turned onto hwy 90 heading east and thought that we would get by the rain but, not to be. 5 or 6 miles down the road our ride came to an end when we ran into the rain. We took to the side of the road so that those that had rain gear could put it on and at this time the decision was made to turn back and call it a day.

Well that is about it, so as you can see we did ride, just not as far as we thought we were going too. Hopefully next month the weather will be more cooperative and we will get the whole ride in.

Until next time, keep the rubber to the ground and the shinny side up and the wind in your face.
