Turns out this was my friend's idea of a funny. He is an odd critter (not like the rest of us!) who is usually overly serious and businesslike. I recently cabled his house for networking - 14 jacks! - and he wanted a written quote which he actually returned a signed copy. I'm thinking, dude, we be friends, no big deal. But, he's got to have it in writing signed all proper-like.
