It took me a bit, but the juxtapostional encyption fell away this morning. I am reminded of a line from 'Blade Runner' :

"The candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long...."

and I tell you Kali, that is the secret illusion that most of the very young hold and why their envelopes are rarely pushed into the brightest world of finishing what they start. They feel an Icarusian doom.

Your poem seems to be discovering that the phrase "No man is an island...." (John Donne) is true only in the sense that life feeds on life; that the digestive process of this feeding, however, is done on an inner island all alone.

I found your poem a vivid description of your mental processes to push a new envelope with the hope of burning thrice as hot for thrice as long! Bravo! I wish you Godesspeed.
