Subject: 1956 Sea Skiff fuel tank woes

I have a beauty of a boat that has a problem I need to correct. The fuel tank has been left occupied with stale gasoline for a good number of years. Poking a stick to the bottom gives the impression that there is about an inch of molasses hugging the battom tank floor. How do I remove it? can it be done without "pulling the tank"?

[> I don't know of any product that's available to clean a fuel tank while keeping it in the boat. I know its a pain, but my suggestion would be to pull the tank & take it to a professional to have the tank cleaned, re-lined, etc. I know I'm a big talker, I need to do the same with my skiff, but it is a pain removing the tank. Sorry I don't know of an over the counter product that might work.... -- Jennifer, 21:37:05 07/16/03 Wed (dialup-67.75.152.230.Dial1.Atlanta1.Level3.net/67.75.152.230)

I had the same problem, I removed the 50 gal. galv. tank, poured 3 gals. of "Grease Lighting", 1 big bottle of "Dawn" and top off with water. Let it sit for a week and then scrub out with a S/S brush. It will break up that gunk. Clean and rinse well then rinse with alcohol. Reinstall. It's not a bad as it sounds, have fun.
