Subject: Hull bottom restoration -1962 23' Sea Skiff

Recently purchased a '62 23' Sea Skiff I/m and looking for advice. In inspecting and scratching the bottom of the hull I noticed what looked like a thin layer of epoxy after tearing a piece of the flaking bottom paint. Did CC apply something of the sort on the bottoms or was this something done at a later? We plan to bring the bottom to bare wood anyway and applying a coat of flexible epoxy before applying bottom paint. Any thoughts on this situation? This is a great site and full of great information. Very glad I discovered it. The one thing I find lacking is a gallery of photos. If any one owns or has photos of a 23' of 1961-1964 I would much appreciate seeing them. Thank you.

I dont' remember CC putting epoxy on the bottoms of the boats. Stripping to bare wood is a good idea. We had that done and Jim Grant of Grants Wooden Boats used Interlux barrier coat. We had a little cracking at the transom but other than that, we have been very happy.
