Subject: Skiff Project

24' CC Sea Skiff Project Description.
1964, purchased new in 1965, I have most of the original paperwork.

How do I post pictures? will add some if anyone is interested.

1) Rot forward in bilge area, appears to be from deck leaks during storage. I have removed the garboards back to just past the bulkhead, from there back they are solid. It'll be a trick but I will be putting in a 12/1 (6") scarf joint replacing from the bow to the cut. Also will be laminating in place replacement ribs from the peak to the engine, from there back things seem ok, some minor repair nothing much.
Next: Remove toe rails and forward decking. Laminate ribs in place (mahogany and West), then remove and replace the 1st and second plank on the port side, and the 1-3 plank on the starboard side. Stem has some bad areas but, mainly in the plywood that was laminated around the mahogany center, will scarf in new plywood in bad area.

2) New frame to the deck for windshield and side windows (aluminum framed). I have cut the mahogany to rough shape, later project, but, I do need to know about the sealing the glass in it's aluminum frame. Anyone have any suggestions on where to get the seals, or other techniques that can be used. All of the seals had shrank and leaked, this is how the rot problems got as bad as they are as the boat was stored with only a snapped on canvas from the windshield aft so every rain let water in to sit in the bilge.

3) New deck, I want to go with a bright deck. Maybe a teak and holly plywood, any suggestions?

4) New pilots seat, last owner installed a mini-fridge and cut the seat apart to put it in. I've roughed and bisket joined the new seat, this comes after structure and deck replacement.

5) Crack in the pilot/interment panel box. Pull out disassemble and repair by shooting with West and clamping back together, refinish. May have to disassemble and replace depending on how the repair goes.

6) Transom, just strip re-finish.

7) Engine replace hoses, belts, wires, etc... just maintained.

8) New flooring vinyl (maybe). Long term this may turn to bright work also, another season.

9) I didn't like the white ply stuff that covered the ribs, I'm going to replace with bright mahogany strips running the length.

10) Add lighting, update electrical.

11) Install fixed head and small holding tank under the passenger seat, run plumbing etc..

Anything else I can come up with. Want to launch by June 2004.

Should I be committed…

There coming to take me away..
he he, ho ho, ha ha…
To the funny farm..
Where life is beautiful all the time..

[> Sometimes I wonder if we *all* shouldn't be committed to the funny farm! I just had to have some work done on my boat (thanks to my buddy Bob for helping) & as I replaced 3 planks that were just replaced less than 3 years ago (got some bad wood) I asked myself the same question "why?" But then when I cranked her for the 1st time after getting her back in the water, I figured out why LOL! Good luck! -- Jennifer, 15:54:01 10/29/03 Wed (idac.netstar-usa.com/65.207.137.22)
