Why shouldn't the promoters get the profits. Most of them run at a loss. If they provide the finance to put it on then they should reap the benefits if it succeeds. They are running a business to provide them with an income. I don't mind paying for my hobby myself. I don't go to a top London coach. I can make my own dresses or buy cheaper second hand ones rather than a tailor made Choice dress etc etc. I practice for free in the local gym fitness room.

I choose to compete so I choose to pay. It doesn't have to be as expensive as some people make it. Plenty of people pay �4 a week for a good quality social class and have tons of fun with little expense. These are the people I'd like Come Dancing to encourage - then in time those who choose to may want to do comps.
