American Cha is actually just a swapping of partners in each round, although it will be a Cha comp throughout all the rounds. Think it is sortof a tradition for SF. I remember 2 years back at SF, Cardiff also held a Inter-Uni Jive and also an impromptu paso comp. The MC taught all of us an easy paso routine, then we had a comp. Those were really fun events.

I really liked the Jack and Jill comp at Florida too. Unfortunately, at that time, I knew nearly no Modern at all. I managed to survive only a few rounds.
