The 3:30 is _not_ the time of the music - it's the time of music _plus_ getting onto and off the floor. To quote the constitution:

2.9.2 Each Offbeat entry should be a total length of not more than 3 minutes and 30 seconds, including time for music and setting up and clearing off the floor. Teams exceeding this limit will be disqualified.

If this limit is vigorously enforced, then I see no reason why it shouldn't be 4 minutes per team...

From memory, the rule used to be 3 minutes music, and 30 seconds getting on/off. If Terrie's proposal is accepted, perhaps we should revert to this rule, require that the music they submit is under 3 minutes, and start it after 30 seconds, whether the team is ready or not (earlier, if the team is ready).

And I'll repeat Terrie's point that 3:30 is a _maximum_ - we should encourage (though not force) teams to enter routines that are shorter...
