I'm in agreement with various people on various aspects of the debate; ofcourse Scott could have entered into the beginners section (in my mind at least) as he actually was a beginner in Latin and Ballroom dancing, however as Di rightly points out, if you are already so highly talented (and a trained dancer in the sense that Ali explains - another point upon which I agree) where is the fun in that? Going through to the final would be no surprise let alone making the next round, and you certainly wouldn't get those butterflies as the the final positions are called out and one after another your number still isn't called out til the very end. I also agree that simply making an advanced final (even if you come last) is far more satisfying than winning a beginners.
What really is the point in competing if you don't need to push yourself at all? In the end shouldn't DanceSport be more about dancing to the best of your personal ability rather than going home with the biggest trophy - we shouldn't forget the reason that we all started dancing in the first place.
By all means allow dancers of scott's capabilities to enter the beginners section; the other beginners will enjoy themselves so much more through out the day!
