Subject: Time saving at IVDA - two heats

What do people feel about the idea of running two heats concurrently in the first round at IVDA? (I appreciate that this isn't a possibility for this year's IVDA given venue.)

IDEA is: In big hall, run two heats of beginners cha (say) at the same time. Call out couples 1-12 on floor A, couples 13-24 on floor B and split the judges between them.

DRAWBACKS: Need say 10 judges - 5 per floor and a big room -so it may be easier for latin than ballroom.

Will be busy first round, slight affect on team morale, potentially unmatched heats/poorer judging.

Details
[might allow us to revolve their breaks for lunch tea so that after first round there are always 7 on deck - and three drinking coffee/eating etc.]

I think first round only should be relatively easy in terms of calling out numbers, and wonder how much time this might save us. [Tim/Robin could you check the following]

If we have 100 in beg*4/nov*2/int*2 and 40 in adv that means 8 heats in beg/nov/int and 4 in advanced.

Potential saving (2 minute 30 sec heats - extra 30 seconds for people to get to the right floor) is 2 minutes per heat.

Might save 2*4*2*4 + 2*2 = 68 minutes (and only just under an hour if we say adv/int ballroom needs more space.)

On deck judges - might need to be reflected by having "gauranteed" advanced rest 3:30-4:30, Int 4-5 or whatever, so events can continue, but some people know that they can go and get food - can't remember what breaks we had at IVDA but say 30 minutes.
