Not to mention Bristol's Riverdance who did not compete at SUDA but won the offbeat this year.

They perhaps thought they would like to spare the audience at SUDA a performance that you (and many others) would probably have thought to be of an awful standard.

I think the gist of the original suggestion was for qualifiers so that at IVDA only those that have proven themselves the best 8 offbeats will be allowed to grace the floor. As for not being ready, they will just have to get ready. No one has said so far that they don't think they will be able to get ready before SUDA. It's like homework assignments (for me anyway!) - having a later deadline doesn't mean a product of better quality - it just means more dragging of feet before *really* preparing. Give 'em an earlier deadline and they'll be there earlier.

Personally, I would MUCH rather sit through 8 X 3.5 (= 28)minutes of relatively good quality offbeats rather than to sit through 16 X 2 (=32) minutes of mostly "awful" ones. But that's just me I guess. =)
