What does having "a chance to live, and to make friends...etc." have to do with the death penalty? Criminals have had their chance, and they screwed up. Big time. And if prisons were a place of punishment, I would agree with you. But prisons today are way too nice for criminals. They have weight rooms, and cable tv, more books, magazines, and newspapers than they could ever read, regular meals, no hard labor....where's the part where they get punished? If by punishment you mean living out your days knowing that you committed a crime, that's not harsh enough. Many of the worst killers don't even feel remorse. Criminals should suffer. And prison just doesn't do it. If someone had raped, tortured, and then killed someone close to you, wouldn't you feel some sense of injustice if that person were allowed to happily live the rest of their days in a nice warm cell with good food to eat and all the other luxuries that come along with prison?
