] Date Posted: 18:27:57 10/14/02 Mon Drilling out the exhaust is an effective way to improve the sound of the XVS. This can be done with the pipes on the bike. Use a compass to lay out where you want the holes to be. Using a punch to mark the layout centers. Use a 1/8 inch drill to make pilot holes. Use the drill bit of your choice to make the final holes. There are two layers of metal that must be drilled through. The pilot hole is drilled at 90 degrees to the outer plate; the larger first hole is also, then drill parallel to the exhaust pipe to make the hole in the second layer. This may sound weird but after you drill the first hole and see the interior of the pipe you well understand. This may require a jetting change, check your plugs after running the changes for a while. My plugs run a lite cinnamon. Clean with no changes and with airbox mods, no emmissions.
