Re-Start!: Buckler & Foxton Set To Revive 'The Jam' 10 December 2006
'Stop The Clocks' is more suited to be the tagline for the much touted reformation of The Jam, than to that of the current hits 'n' favs Oasis opus.

For as The Gift play out the final dates of a year that's seen them lay the groundwork for much bigger & better things, there's rumoured to be an old name attached to any future new material.

At Brighton's Concorde 2, last Saturday, Rick Buckler excitedly revealed that not only was his currently guesting ex-Jam partner, Bruce Foxton, soon to be a permanent member of The Gift .. but that they will also be rebranded as .. 'Rick Buckler & Bruce Foxton's The Jam'.

From there on plans are afoot to maybe re-record some of The Jam's original material .. with first out of the pot likely to be the Bruce Foxton penned 'Smithers Jones'.

But the new Jam will have two major differences to the old .. No Paul Weller, & one member more than the iconic three-piece classic line-up.

Joining Rick & Bruce in 'The Jam' will be current Gift members Russell Hastings (vocals/guitar) & Dave Moore (guitar/keyboards).

But it was the 'old' Gift who took to the stage of Concorde 2 to perform the first-half of the evening's 'The Jam Set'.

Kicking off with the drive & bile of 'The Modern World' the three-piece (with Dave Moore on bass) delivered an opening salvo of more obscure Jam material.

Highlight for me, & many others, was the seldom heard, 'Life From A Window' .. dismissed by its author (Weller) but much cherished by The Jam's barmy-army.

Ploughing on through the likes of 'Girl On The Phone', 'To Be Someone', 'Little Boy Soldiers' & 'When You're Young' .. there was hardly time to draw breath before another classic shot was fired from The Jam's cannon.

Then came the end of 'That's Entertainment' & on came Bruce Foxton to deliver a note perfect 'David Watts'.

Beaming like a kid in a candy store, Bruce added depth, charisma & energy to an already sweat-fuelled evening.

'Strange Town', 'Start!', 'The Eton Rifles', 'Going Underground' & 'Down In The Tubestation At Midnight' raised the roof. The Jam were reborn .. long live The Jam!

On hand to film the unfolding events were local internet station, Gossip TV. Not only did they capture part of the evening's performance, but they were granted an audience with Rick, Bruce, Russell & Dave.

Interviewed by Katie Neiman & James Little, Rick revealed, in jest, that Bruce had 'passed the audition' to join the band.

He also divulged his love of the C2 venue & that Brighton has 'a certain magic'.

You'll be able to view 'The Gift report' here on VBM & at www.gossiptv.co.uk shortly.

So, the clock that's been ticking for twenty-four years has stopped. For all the bitter recriminations, books, media-inches and court cases .. The Jam are back!
