Subject: Right Royal Moan ... (One to even make SK proud!)

"You Can Call Me Number 5"
"Can You Tell The Difference Between a Pebble and A Boy"

What the fack is Paul on about these days man?! ...

And is it just me, but are we, the fans, being sold short at the moment? ... I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but do you not think the sound quality and mix of 'Catch Flame' is no better than that of a poor bootleg? ... While the sleeve designs and packaging of everything he's done in the last 6-8 years is pretty poop?

I can speak with a bit of expert knowledge on this last point, but aside from a decent made free DVD (where all the effort goes it would seem), the photos, montages and many eclectic styles are just thrown together it would seem, while much of the text and fonts used are unreadable and peppered with mistakes! ... I'd say no more than an hour or two could have been spent putting together the packaging for Studio, Catch Flame, As Is Now, illumination, Helio, etc.

With some blatantly poor production, re-hashed versions of the same old material and crap sleeves and artwork, I've decided ... I'm on SK's side!! ... we're getting fleeced at the moment! ...

[> And furthermore(!) ... 'As Is Now' is not as good as he thinks it is, 'Floorboards' is not an anthem and no better than 'Brushed', so I wish he'd stop playing it all the fackin time, and he should go back to the drawing board and come up with something that sounds as if he gives a fack! ... -- The Loved, 15:57:12 08/23/06 Wed

[> Lee, Floorboards is a great song....driving beat and better than "Stanley Road"..."As Is Now" is better than SR , as for Brushed that is shite!...the sound quality on Flame is not as good as it could be and the artwork in the Vinyl version is lazy.....Cazx...."Sing You Little Fuckers" refers to the young and up and coming bands such as Hard-fi..like The Jam when they were just starting out...thats all they could do..could'nt get a job because they were crap at everything else...as John W says in a doc "Look at him down there, fookin useless if he could'nt play guitar what fookin use would he be at anything else" -- A.K, 17:56:45 08/23/06 Wed

[> [> Not sure that many would go along with your comparisons of As Is Now to his best ever album, even by his own admission, but each to his own ... I personally think Floorboards is a dire song, and the album decidely average. But as you say, the 'lazy artwork' and poor mixing / production is my biggest gripe. I wouldn't say its just recent vinyl versions that suffer, but everything from Heavy Soul onwards, but particularly the last few album releases ... very half-hearted in my view -- Lee 'Singing Like A Little Facker', 23:06:36 08/23/06 Wed

[> "Floorboards" and "Brushed" are 2 of my fave songs (!) But then agian, I'm not deep. I agree AIN is over-rated, most of the time when PW bows his own trumpet I always thought even though he's a show-off he's also right. But as far as AIN goes he's folowing the Oasis type hype thing... Blah, blah... this is the best shit I've ever recorded etc... -- SK, 16:57:19 08/25/06 Fri

[> [> I think it's his best since Heavy Soul, but then I'm not a huge fan of Heavy Soul. At least it's got a couple of tunes on it, which is more than can be said for his last couple of studio albums IMO. Dare I say I think his fire is in danger of going out (really)?! -- The Gardener of Eden, 07:54:49 08/26/06 Sat

[> [> [> Now he's sponsored by Jack Daniels, Fred Perry and does the Euro festival dates once a year he doesn't need to sell that many records any more. [> S.K Your doing it again, slagging him off then going out and buying the albums...don't forget NO ONE is forcing you to buy anything YOU don't want to.....you did it at the WW a few years back...you bought a SC Sweatshirt off Ann Weller at some sky high price like 30 quid, then slagged them off allnight saying you had been ripped off....make your mind up matey.. -- A.K, 17:46:00 08/27/06 Sun

[> Okay chaps ... but rather than another post about AIN and merchandising prices, this post was supposed to be about Catch Flame's sound quality, which I found to be very poor, as well as the mostly unreadable CD/DVD packaging which is 'knocked together' by Weller's mates and served up at us ... Do you not think that these 'quality-issues' are the real piss-take? -- The Loved, 09:15:58 08/29/06 Tue
