Subject: Race Results of "Anti-Labor Day run
In reply to: Rick S 's message, "Labor Day Trail Run" on 20:31:25 08/31/03 Sun

On a very cool and rainy day four race directors (Jon Korte, Tim Brenner, Rick Stanford and Lee Miller) and no runners started a new RAW tradition, “The Anti Labor Day Run or ALDR” The plan for this race was to run/walk around eight miles at Rockledge Park. Due to the rain storms and mud on the course (we are road runners not trail runners), the race location was moved to RAW club house. Our warm up consisted of Tim making coffee and the rest of us back seat coaching Tim on the correct procedures for coffee making, since the master Mr. Byno was absent. The gun went off and the big dawgs took over (Jon and Rick), basically take one step to our three steps (seems a little unfair). As we approached the 1.3 mile mark, my legs began to slow and I could not figure out why, then I remembered “WATER STOP” Major Mike forgot to put out the water for this race, or did we forget to tell him he was in charge of that duty. Anyway, I had to force myself to run through these imagery water stops. Basically when I run the eight mile loop, I see it as four rest stops (rest as in walking, drinking and relaxing), that would not be the case today. “Gulp”, I would have to run a whole eight miles without stopping! As Rick and Jon lead the way, each of our miles got faster and faster, Tim complained loudly, “That This Pace Was Going to Kill Him.” What we did not know, was he was setting us up. There are many names for this, playing possum, “The Rope a Dope”, pulling a Lance Armstrong, or just plain faking us out.
I took over with two miles to go thinking, I had them, little did I know that Tim “I am going to blew by you” Brenner was just waiting for the right moment to attack. As we crossed the one mile mark, the pace increased, I felt the presence of another runner behind me, I was thinking it was either Jon or Rick, surly it could not be Tim since, “This Pace Was Going to Kill Him.” With ½ mile left, Tim made his moved and blew by all of us to win the first annual ALDR.

Results:
Tim Brenner (Time of September 1, 2003)
Lee Miller (Time of September 1, 2003)
Rick Stanford (Time of September 1, 2003)
Jon Korte (Time of September 1, 2003)

Awards:
Overall Male: Tim (first over all win)
Overall Female: Tim
(No women signed up, I would have taken this award, but I was disqualified for having too much hair on my back and shoulders)
“I was robbed of my first over all win, I could have been a contender, I could have been someone.”

Oscar for Best Actor in a Race: Tim
Most ground covered in the fewest steps: Tie, Rick and Jon
