Subject: LGRAW To Grapevine Triathlon

For those who aren't planning to do Rick Sanford's 5K PR CHALLENGE May 31st (see newsletter), it sounds like we'll have another group competing at the Grapevine Tri as well. We've also volunteered the last two years, and it's a lot of fun to watch. Didn't RAW's Scott Decker win this last year? A "Sprint" version, this event is just 300 meters in the Dove Rd pool (Dove & Park), 20K bicycle and 5K run in a very relaxed, low-key atmosphere. I've left registration forms at the clubhouse, and they're also available at the Grapevine Rec Center.
Details:
$40 includes post-race picnic meal and T-shirt.
Registration closes May 24th, but is limited to 150 people.
Registration form requires your estimated swim time for 300 meters, and non-swimmers are simply put at the end of the individually staggered start (it's only 4' deep :)
I'm in the process of getting this year's bike and run routes, which both start and finish at the Dove Pool.

Need a cheap place to practice swimming? GCISD Swim Center (817-251-5353) is an indoor facility on Pool Road, behind the Hwy 26 Krispy Kreme Donuts, and across from Cross Timbers Middle School. They only charge $2 a day and lap swimming is 7:15 - 8:30 pm on weeknights, along with open swim 1 - 4:30 on Saturdays.

There's also Carroll ISD pool (indoor) 817-949-8200 on 1709 immediately east of the High School, $3.50/day for non-Southlake residents, with lap swimming:
M-Fri 11 - 2 and 4 - 8pm,
Sat 12 - 6, and Sunday 1 - 5.
For the more adventerous, Lake Grapevine is free (boat ramp just down the street from the clubhouse), but it's a bit more difficult to practice the flip turns, and the jet skis can give you a headache :)
