Silly me, after not having owned a bike for over 20 years, I was only hoping to borrow a bike for 1 week to get ready for the race. LN generously offered that I could pick up her spare bike right away, which gives me 6 weeks, so yesterday, Alan took the time to carefully set it up for me, and then took me on a short test ride to see if everything fit. I hadn’t expected that, and so here I am in my boat shoes trying to get used to 24 speeds and these pedals that are not like what I had on my the 1970’s ten speed. As we’re coming back into his neighborhood, I mistakenly thought we were already on his street, when Alan suddenly dives into one last turn. I had the wrong line and tried to follow, then chickened out in the middle, and went tearing across a shallow ditch and then yelling as I found myself racing across his neighbor’s corner lot, expecting to tear up the bike and go flying over the handlebars at any moment. Just my luck , there’s the neighbor on his lawn tractor - look ouutttt!!!! Amazingly, no damage and the neighbor seemed more amused than upset. Ya, this may take a little longer than I expected :)
