Thanks for the link JCard. Nice to think of Carroll as the "Father of the Flex" (or perhaps the "Godfather of Flex" as he often has stated in his humble fashion he just improved on ideas that had been around). Well, it's made teams like Maryland and Gone-ga-ga very popular. Perhaps its that prophet in his own land thing. I can remember times when I would hear Bronco fans groan .. "aww, its the Bronco Weave again!"

But on the other hand you have Bombs-away! with the trey ... In fact to kind of under score that fan 'what have you done for me lately' bias .. After midnight I caught the Bob Valvano (the younger brother of the late Jimmmy V.) radio show on ESPN Radio. He mentioned that leaving a game Bob had coached one night he heard a fan compain about what a bad tactic shooting all the threes was. He said he felt like telling the moron(?) "Hey, that stratagy won a lot of games!" At Catholic University that 1991-92 team was 20-6, using an offense which centered around three-point shooting. The Cardinals set 16 school records and six NCAA three-point shooting marks that season.

During his career Valvano coached teams set more than 15 college records and six NCAA records. The NCAA records were: three-point field goals made in a season, three-point field goals attempted in a season, three point field goals made in one game (27), three point field goals attempted in one game (63), three point field goals made, two teams combined (32), and most players making a three point field goal in one game (11) (all I believe Div II and III) .

So combine the Flex and Bombs-Away and you have the ZAG's "everyone's" favorite "underdog" and the Broncos of late ... my favorite team ..

Great to see CW continuing to get the alloclades he deserves for being one of the GREATEST Minds and Gentleman in the sport. Perhaps that's why Bobby Knight was supposedly always trying to get him to join his staff.
