Subject: SCU Woman's Soccer Start Season Ranked #3

SCU's Women come in at No. 3 in the Soccer Buzz preseason poll, released on Wednesday. Two other WCC teams were listed in the top 30 poll; the University of Portland is ranked No. 7 and Pepperdine University is ranked No. 29. This marks the third consecutive season that Santa Clara has garnered Soccer Buzz preseason top 10 honors.

the WCC is tops in the WEST

Santa Clara and Portland claim the top two spots, respectively in the West Region, while Pepperdine is listed No. 7. LMU comes in at No. 13, while the USD is listed at No. 14 and Gonzaga University is receiving votes. The five selections in the West Region ties the Pacific-10 Conference for the most in the region and with the Lady ZAGS moving up actually give the WCC more rated and mentioned teams than the Pac10. Given that St. Mary's has had a nationally ranked program as of late that only leaves USF (a former men's national power)to pick up the pace.

WAY TO GO LADIES ... looking forward to some big games over the Pac10 this year ...

the ACC continues to be the West Coast's nemisis ... with four ACC teams in the Top 12 (North Carolina, Florida State and Virginia, and Clemson).

as for the other "elite"/BCS conferences:

the Big 12 has 5 teams in the Top 25: (Texas, Texas A&M, Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska) and there are four teams from the Big East and three each from the Pac-10 and the SEC.

the WCC's Lady Broncos, Pilots, and Waves have some big time company ... let's hope all the WCC teams kick some BCS-butt ...
