Decent preview. I'm concerned that our lack of any early signings (is that right? is the window over?) is because Davey's contract is up and recruits think he'll be gone next year.

Actually the early signing period starts on Wednesday. The Broncos have one verbal from Santa Cruz High's Cliff Sammet, who received a pretty encouraging review from Prep West Hoops. He won't be an immediate difference maker, which is what they'll need next year with Perkin and KB gone. I know they've had players visiting. I, too have thought about Davey's status and it's impact on recruiting. I spoke to an assistant coach during the summer and hewas confident DD could stay as long as he wants. If you read the Mercury article below, "He must be doing something right", he might go if he's not happy with the progress of the program. I hope he has success enough to bring the program back--a healthy team would be a nice start.

i saw the assessment that greg from PrepWesthoops gave in response to your inquiry about SCU recruiting and cliff sammett. besides his notes on cliff, he stated he has not heard anything new on SCU recruiting front. i think greg is more focused on high school recruiting. could it be that Davey and crew are going the JC route instead of going after high school seniors? with Kyle, Doron, Ethan and Jordan graduating after this season there are at least 4 scholarships available.

I suspect dent is right on; next year the back court will be very thin without an influx of players who can contribute upon arrival.DD has had good success with JUCOs. Assuming Rohe comes back @ 100%, I would imagine him and Angley as the starting backcourt with very little behind them.

I wouldn't be suprised if the Broncos aren't looking for a guard or two ... perhaps even in the early signing period

My sense is that it may be time to bring in a fresh face into the coaching position. DD's a great coach and by all accounts a great guy. But we've been waning and digressing the past 8 years and I don't see a light at the end of that tunnel.

With new arena it seems times for a new approach.
