as you can tell from the box score is was a "team" effort tonight in the PIT ...
from the opening tip-off (which the Broncos controlled and resulted in a break away Perkins lay-up in the first 5 seconds) it looked like the new-look running Broncos were for real .. no Kyle ambling up the court with the ball ... still this isn't Showtime ... but hustle is a part of the game (with maybe a "big" exception or two?)
Doron, although supposedly playing on an injured foot looks like he is picking up where he left off ... Jordan has stepped it up a notch or two and made a NICE jumper from in front?? of the basket on the next SCU possession in the first 42 seconds of the game .... Jordan went on
to at times hit the boards (9 rbs/ 3off) hard and take a bunch for him (8) shots ... and with a little more touch would have had more that his 9 pts. the good news was his 30 min of PT ...
Brody seem to have more than the 7 mins the box shows and his one FG was with considerable distance from the left near the 3pt arc --- the international ??? 3pt distance in effect for the "tournement" -- Brody shows he can run off-tackle and will be just fine running the offense ...
in the pre-game warm-up the only one I saw sinking the long range shots was Mr. Neuburger ... still our biggest challenge ... I saw Ethan put on a 270 degree spin move at the top of the Key and drain a shot which was just about the sweetest shot of the night ...unfortunately that was about it ... let's hope he figures out how to create shots like that more often ... or start draining the open 3's
Kyle looked to be struggling with the shots again ... not until he sank his 3 with 8:48 left in the game did it look like he was in control ... he struggled with his FT's early (0-2) but sank 4 in consecutive possessions with less than a Minute left to seal the victory ...
the first 5 minutes looked real good ... and then it wasn't quite da ja Maui vu all over again ... but this year's team may not be for the faint of heart ...
double D did his shuffle ... looking at a lot of different line ups ... but when Tristan came in (somewhere around 5 min into the game) you could tell a difference ...
the game was perhaps not as athletic as I saw against Notre Dame but there are real flashes of 'athletic' ball out there ... just about everyone who made the trip played and contributed (Graham the only hold-out)`
Travis was his usual fire-brand intensity ... and at one point I thought one of the refs was going to say a BIG something to him ... (Drew where ever you are start channeling your mystic powers to Mr. Niesen) Travis has 8 pts in only 19 min and I trust they DD, SS, SS, & LP were "resting" him for the big one tomorrow
--- the Bob King Court has not seen the last of Mr T's impression ...
Mitch looked good in his 9 minutes ... nothing spectacular but he did try and drive to the hoop a few times ... it will be intesting to see if that opens up some outside shots as well ....
and our game MVP?? Tristan Parham ... 10 points, 11 boards (5 off) in 18 minutes ... and it looks like he is for real and capable of even more ... he brings energy, drive, and hustle ... we are going to enjoy his contributions ....
Scott was moving ok ... not up and down the court with any great speed ... but under the basket and without the ball he seemed to keep it going ... maybe some more time will help ....
the Center by committee is still to be seen ... luckly the teams this weekend are not THAT big ...
I would like to see Linden have about half of Travis' aggression ....
all told ... it was a W ... tomorrow's game again the LOBOS in their DEN will be a REAL test of what these Broncs are made of ....
perhaps more later ... the Cerveza is kicking in ...

rumor has it ... --
Bronco66, 02:00:18 11/14/04 Sun
that the Broncs are looking for some PG help deep in the heart of Tibbits country ....
and Gosh it does appear that we need someone who can consistantly "put the round thing in the round thing"
other than that I have nothing to offer ...
other than Travis looked real good ... scoring with the left hand from either side of the basket ... and Brody is coming along just nicely ... thank you ... he made an inside move that had folks wondering how he ever made it ... his 7 pts (in 14 min) were no fluke ... and he didn't appear rattled by the "athletic" Lobo guards ...
NC A&T is fast and athletic and uses the Hockey flying line change type of substitution ... so we will see what the Broncos can do against a "fast" not so good shooting team

Thanks,'66.. The game sounded like one of the 2004 St. Marys games where the Broncos concentrated on the interior to such a degree that they were burned (excoriated?)by the outside. Is the Texas guard a done deal? According to various midwestern recruiting sources we were also in the mix for a pretty highly regarded but underrsized (6'7")Ill. PF (Mike Davis). We're gonna need immediate help.

only "done" deal that I have heard of is Cliff -- everyone is fairly tight lipped until the signed paperwork is in the hand ... and even then the Broncs tend not to talk a lot about the far future ... "Coach"'s way is to speak little and carry a big stick
and speaking of big sticks ... "everyone" seems to think we need Sean back soon ... that really was a big part of the Lobo's getting off to a great start ... we were doing a "great" job of shutting off their inside game (even with a ref who REALLY did like Travis) but at a cost of leaving them open for the threes which unlike the night before they made with amazing regularity ... a big presence in the paint would mean less double teaming (and therefore more wide open looks) and some more scoring threat inside --- so:
1) defend the wide open 3 --- especially when the opponents are having a "career" night (EVERYONE)
2) make some of your own ...
3) don't get frustrated and think you have to do it all yourself ...
so --- this afternoon we get to see how much pride and character this year's Broncos have ...
