Last saturday saw another brilliant climbing day, cold and sunny and on the weekend. Jake, Chris, Todd and myself decided to head over to Almscliff for another day on the grit. when we arrived there was already many others there climbing and loads of people out with there kids.

We walmed up on the Matterhorn problem a classic slanting arete that finnished just high enough off the ground to wish we had brought another mat. We did another couple of problems and then decided to head to the top section of the crag. Jake and Chris had a go at another roof boulder problem going at V7 with some success. Todd and I decided to top rope an E5 6c we found in the guide. Having looked at the gear (which consisted of 2 cams one gearenteed to ping out when loaded) I decided that the lead was'nt on. The route had some classic grit stone slopers which you could only hold if you prayed hard. It was one of those routes that puts you in your place i will have to be climbing alot better to give it another go.

Chris and Jake then headed round the corner and chris dispatched with some style Black wall Eliminate E2 5c. Although a little more gear would have eased all our fears when his foot slipped almost at the top. A bloody good lead and the best of the day! Jake then got on Western Front HVS 5a, the classic of the crag and after a little bother with a stuck cam (it was Chris's so Jake was'nt to fussed) he set off. An athsetic route that gave great exposure throughout; Jake lead it well with only a little fuss when I failed many times to throw him a sling to protect the top section.

Todd and I once set out sights on a top rope this time another E5 which Todd had soloed when he was younger. Easy overhung climbing lead to a desperate crux right at the top where a ground fall was not an option. We all decided to finnish the day with some bouldering. Whilst trying Syrett's roof E3 6b I managed to fall and sprain my ankle again, ending our days climbing and mine for several weeks i guess. A rubbish end to a really nice day.

I'd second that, a really good day out on the grit!! Just to clarify, i did Great Western (HVS), not Western Front (E3)!
