PLEASE HELP ME!

The organizers of the Miss Tourism Queen International pageant are holding me hostage in China. I just called to change my flight and it has been cancelled which means I don’t even have a flight arranged for me to go home in 11 days as previously planned. THE ORGANIZER CANCELLED MY FLIGHT as stated by the airline.

This is a nightmare!

I have been told that it would be “the right thing to do for me to come down to dinner tonight and dine with the rest of the girls so they don’t think that the organizer has abandoned me”.

In reality, they HAVE ABANDONED ME! I have been told that I must find my own way back to Beijing (which is at least 10 hours away by car or rail) because I am not the pageant’s responsibility anymore.

Also, the trains are very unsafe in China and they have told me that I only have the option to fly back to Beijing but that the cost will be completely absorbed by me. This is going to cost about $400 (US) for an hour and a half flight.

Truth be told, I would not be having major stomach cramping and throwing up if the organizer had decided to feed us properly and let us sleep. I was told by Mr. Jerome Too and Mr. Alex Lui that sleep was a luxury. Sleep is necessary for proper health, especially after being jet lagged. They also said that they would never allow another vegetarian contestant to enter the pageant because they were not going to accommodate “special diets”. I never asked once for a “special meal”, all I needed was proper nutrition. They said that I needed to pay to go home. I would not be going home (and directly to an American hospital) if the organizers had taken better care of me.

I worked for Mr. Too and Mr. Lui for 8 days before I was too ill to even get out of bed. Now this is how they repay me.

I have no idea what to do so I’m calling the US Embassy again.

I love participating in international beauty pageants but I have some important concerns about this competition. There are 115 girls here with little to no official organization. Each night, we are given a total of 3 to 4 hours to sleep and the girls are getting sick with no medical care. They finally took one of the poor girls to the hospital after 3 days with a serious ailment. Also, we have not had a proper meal in days and all most of us have been eating is bread, cakes, and rice, and french fries. Needless to say, I feel terrible! I rarely eat this but I have to eat something! I am not just being picky either. I don’t know too many people that are willing to try “Sea Cucumber in Blueberry Juice” or “Fermented Bean Skin”. I am trying to maintain my composure and eat what we are fed in order to show respect which is sometimes a very difficult task here. We have no place to buy food during the day either.

Some of the girls have asked for feminine products and we have been unable to buy them. In my eyes, this is totally unacceptable.

Lastly, the security does very little to protect us. They stand around while the Chinese tourists are aggressive with us, poking us and pulling us so we will come take a photo with them. Some of the girls have had their hair pulled by tourists when they tried to walk away! I know they are excited but I do not think it is right to let them do this.

A few of the organizers are constantly rude to us. They bang loudly on the door when the doorbell would do just fine. They are always screaming and stressed out. I realized they are trying to gather over 115 girls but it is unfair to us that they have not planned the events properly before we arrived. There are too many contestants and not enough chaperones to help us with our needs.

Also, the evening gown competition we had a few nights ago was in 40 F (7 C) weather outside. Some of the girls were sick the next morning.

Yesterday, we were required to wear cocktail dresses in freezing weather while we hiked down steep terrain equivilant to the Grand Canyon.

We have visited many businesses to take group photos with the staff but we never actually get to experience the tourist sites which is very disappointing since China is such a beautiful country and we have only seen it from the bus rides.

We have no formal itinerary and no idea what the wear, where to go, or what city we a currently in. Currently, I have no idea where I am.

Most of the girls have been unable to call home because they cannot find a shop to buy an international phone card and no one seems to help the problem. After 5 days, someone finally bought the girls phone cards but they were for domestic use only and were not useful to call home. With all of the international news about China, it is very important for everyone’s parents to know that they are safe and well.

Thankfully, I have a phone that works internationally at all times. I have let some of the girls use my phone because they cannot call their families otherwise.

They took our passports for “safe keeping”. The real reason they take the passports is so we cannot decide to go home on our own.

It is possible that the pageant was recently changed to new hands but it seems like the organization as a whole is half hearted and that they do not truly care about our well being. They seemed to have thrown this pageant together in a matter of weeks because the planning has been awful. I feel bad for the few members of the staff that truly have their heart in assisting the girls and making this an enjoyable experience for everyone. There is a very special woman from Australia who has been extremely helpful to all of us and she is the only one I feel safe with.

All I am asking for is a good wholesome meal and 8 hours of sleep.

It is quite true actually! Hoda told me that the conditions are not very good in China and many girls are falling sick including herself! Her back hurts from mountain climbing everyday and it is a fact that Miss America, Miss South Africa and Miss Korea are leaving the competition! this has never happened before in any grand slam pageant!!! I really hope Hoda gets well soon and I commend her on staying strong throughout this pageant. MTQI is only considered a Grandslam pageant by Global Beauties and that's only because both MTQI and GB are in business (extensive coverage on the GB site earns Brazil and Fernando de Narronha high placements and better treatment, as well as Henrique Fontes a free trip). I find the whole matter really cheap and unprofessional. Amy also wrote that she heard the organizers saying there will only be a Top 5! Out of 100+ ladies? LoL! In 2006 MU had a Top 20 and only 80 ladies competed! I think MTQI has hurt themselves a lot, not only with how they treat their contestants day by day but also in how they react to issues addressed by contestants. • MISS EGYPT'S TURN : Another former contestant of Miss Tourism Queen International 2008 is speaking out against the injustices she had experienced at the pageant in China. Egypt's Hoda Kaiser, 23, below, wrote an e-mail to Amy Lynne Holbrook who forwarded it to me. Hoda gave me permission to publish her e-mail, and here it is:

"Hi Amy. Great to hear from you. I am back in my country and have adapted to normal food and my regular life. It’s a wonderful feeling to know what you eat and drink and people understand me and last but not least to be back with my family and of course my fiancée.

Sure, with great pleasure I am telling you my point of view of the story. I had the great opportunity to visit a five-star hospital in China, when I fell from the steps in the mountains. I injured my lower back and I was racked with pain. They brought to a hospital where I had an enthusiastic reception from a dead body on the floor in the entrance of the hospital (no joke). After the x-ray the doctor gave me a spray (of course the list of ingredients and the administration of the spray was all written in Chinese). But the highlight was the letter which I was supposed to give to my doctor in Egypt to summarize the accident and the injury; all in Chinese. By the way, the same spray was given to all girls who suffered from whatever, even a flu. Well, that’s the story about the hospital which I do not recommend for a visit.

The other thing which revealed how inhospitable in particular the organizer of the pageant was the preferential treatment we experienced once the contest was over. No security any longer, a real disgusting bus, no company any longer, a barrack (however they still considered it a hotel), and they promised us at the final night, that we do not have to pay for our excess luggage, which in fact anyone of us had, on the flight from Zheng Zhou to Beijing. The next day when we arrived at the airport and went to check in our luggage, suddenly we were told that we have to pay for excess luggage. It took us three hours shouting and yelling to Christine to get what we were promised the other night. Bottom line, we were no longer treated as beauty queens once the whole event was over, rather we were treated like cows in a slaughter house. These things are just the tip of the ice-berg but they give a perfect impression of what really happened plus the Chinese expect from us that we are going to recommend China as a lovely and hospitable country for tourists (hahahaha….).

By the way I plan to visit the states in the summer. If you have time we could meet somewhere and you show me a little bit of California. I am sure you are way better guide than any Chinese.

It was also a pleasure for me to meet you, regardless of all adverse circumstances, and of course all the other girls too, and maybe one or two friendship will result. Talk to you later! Hoda."

Well, as I said before, Hoda and the other ladies showed courage under fire at MTQI. I'm glad she is safe and sound and is enjoying life now. As for MTQI, I think serious thought should be made on what to do about this pageant. I suggest not sending an Egyptian rep. anymore. Anyways, congratulations to Hoda for doing a great job in China! • THE AMERICAN GIRL : Amy Holbrook, left, the American representative to the Miss Tourism Queen International pageant taking place in China, decided to withdraw from the competition last Tuesday (April 1st) after the organizers discovered that she had been writing unfavorable comments about the pageant in her blog. Amy cites that the candidates were being subjected to 3 to 4 hours of sleep, to poor nutrition, to freezing temperatures without proper attire, to minimal security, and to poor medical care. She also wrote that one of the organizers, Jerome Too was rude to her and told her that vegetarian girls like herself would not be allowed to compete next year. The organizers even attempted to persuade her to take down her blog and also gave her the option to maintain her blog - but on the condition that she retract her statements. Holbrook decided to keep her blog as it is, citing freedom of expression.

Global Beauties, which covers the pageant, published a comment written by its correspondent Thiago Castro in which Castro denounces Amy and calls her statements "baseless." Castro also posted an "official statement" from MTQI organizers that was supposedly sent to all the national directors:

"We would like to inform you that Miss America's allegations and claims are not true and baseless. We'd like to say that this event is organized by the Henan Government and Henan TV station and their expectations are high for the contest as well as the contestants. They have spent millions in US$ in terms of round-trip fare for the candidates to come to their respective countries, international journalists as well their local journalists which include hotel stays and food and beverages. The China organizers have done their best to make all welcome both contestants and the 120 journalists from the international and national press that are currently with us. This event is high publicized. We provide sufficient and top grade meals for all contestants. We have big buffets spreads which consist of good food and in her case, plenty of vegetables, salads, fruits and soya based food. We do not feed bugs, dogs, cats and "Fear Factor" meals to our guests, journalists and contestants. There are sufficient security provide by both police and army. Last year alone, they activated 10,000 security personnel for the pageant. However sometimes there are occasional overzealous locals who tend to pull the contestants to snap photos with but usually this contestant who are being "harassed" will be ushered away by the chaperones. We have a trained doctor, paramedics and the ambulance are with us at all times during activities that the candidates are involved in. Should they be sick, they are immediately attended to. Other issues about phones cards of which this can be purchased at hotel concierge or gift stores. This will include feminine products as well. If the hotel do not have any available, they can approach the chaperones who will get the hotel to purchase for them on their behalf. Many of you have worked with us over the years and you know we are very strict and look after your girls well so we do not allow such things to happen. I have journalist here with us who can vouch that what was written in the blog mostly was a pack of lies. I will attach their comments in my next email for your judgment. Attached is also the Founder of Miss Tourism Queen International, Mr. Charlie See' wife who has given us her thoughts".

MISS TOURISM QUEEN INTERNATIONAL TOP GRADE MEALS: FUNGUS MIXED WITH WALL NUTS! YUM YUM!

Amy reposted the above statement in her blog and called it a "public relations nightmare." Notice that the statement insists that the pageant is highly publicized by "120 journalists from the international and national press." I just searched for "miss tourism queen," "miss tourism queen international," "miss tourism," and "mtqi" in the News section of Yahoo and Google and I didn't see any links to a coverage in English, Spanish, Portuguese or French - languages spoken by over a billion people. Global Beauties is the only pageant site that offers full coverage; the other sites could care less. Notice, too, how the writer admits to a lapse in security while referring to "occasional overzealous locals who tend to pull the contestants to snap photos." Sufficient security does not always translate to guaranteed security, as the contestants could get hurt especially if they were pulled aggressively. Imagine international athletes being treated like this when they come to China for the Summer 2008 Olympics. And why is there only one "trained doctor?" In her blog, Amy describes the substandard conditions in a local hospital to which she was taken after she had experienced stomach ache. It seems that there was not even one good doctor to examine a patient suffering from a simple stomach ache that, according to Amy, was caused "by lack of sleep and food poisoning."

MTQI WORLD CLASS HOSPITAL... THE MTQI STANDARD

What I'd like to know is who exactly wrote the so-called "official statement" from MTQI. Notice how the statement starts with the collective "We" and ends with a singular "I." Why weren't the names of the MTQI organizers Jerome Too and Alex Liu mentioned in the statement? And more importantly, why is the statement not even posted in the official MTQI website? The statement ends with a reference to an attachment - a letter supposedly written by Ann See, the widow of MTQI founder Charlie See. What exactly did Mrs. See say and why is her letter not posted on Global Beauties or MTQI websites?

After being held "hostage" in China for a couple of days, Amy was finally able to fly out of China and returned safely in Los Angeles last Saturday. Another contestant, Miss South Africa Alyssa Revelo, also withdrew from the pageant "due to medical reasons," according to Global Beauties, although one would suspect that she had also gotten ill due to food poisoning. Reliable sources informed me that nearly twenty candidates also wanted to leave, but that their passports were being held by the organizers. It would be interesting to see new stories come out once the pageant is over on April 10th, that is if all the girls (except the winner and runners-up) get to leave safely!

• MISS BOLIVIA SPEAKS UP : In an interview with a local press, Bolivia's representative to Miss Tourism Queen International 2008, Katherine David, revealed some anecdotes when asked what the worst part of her stay in China was. David said that the change in schedule had affected all the candidates to the point that it caused them hormonal imbalance. David, who will represent Bolivia in Miss Universe 2008 in Vietnam, stated that she had water retention which caused her body to be bloated. She also fell hard while getting off the bus because her chaperone had pulled her quite violently, thus tearing off her pants. (Santa Cruz de la Sierra, 4/16/2008)

• SAIDIA SPEAKS UP : A former contestant of Miss Tourism Queen International 2007, El Salvador's Saidia Palma,, left, (a former Miss Mesoamerica International), wrote an e-mail to her friend Miguel Castro-Rivera, a CB reader, in which she recounts her misadventures in China last year. This is in reference to the claims reported by Amy Lynne Holbrook in her blog. Miguel forwarded Saidia's e-mail to me (originally in Spanish and dated April 8, 2008) and that Miguel has translated into English:

"Hello, Miguel. I am speechless about what is going on in China and to tell you the truth, it is not strange to me, since what the girls are going through now, we lived it last year. That has been the worst pageant that I have gone to. If it was up to me, I would tell the delegates not to participate in it and to the directors NOT TO SEND ANYBODY!

Seriously, reading what Amy has written just reminded me what we experienced in China. I was counting the weeks, the days, the hours, and even the minutes just to leave with Miss Colombia. Each day that went by was a day closer to go home, and as tragic as this may sound, it is the truth. We did not have enough sleep. Many times we were under the rain almost naked with the uniforms they had provided, and we could not wear the coats because they told us that we could not take them out with us from the bus.

Regarding food, they had a huge buffet, Chinese style, but many girls did not like their offered food. Many girls were not used to this kind of food. I tried a little bit of everything, but as you know everyone’s digestive system is different, and there are some stomachs more sensitive than others and are accustomed to certain kinds of food. The buffet should have been an international cuisine to accommodate all the girls from different parts of the world. How do they expect people to tolerate and eat food that we are not accustomed to, and for a full month?

In that trip I spent a lot of money in cookies to kill my hunger when I was starving (hahaha). We were complaining about the food, the poor attention, the hotels (I believe we stayed in ONE-STAR hotel, where it was written on the door of the room that they recommended to lock the door and windows because the hotel would not be responsible if any thing should happen. What was that all about? And where was security? In reality we felt like as if we were in a circus tour, where every other day we would travel to a different place and we never knew where we were. Sometimes we were sleeping on the buses, there were some nights I could not sleep at all, and many times because we would arrive at midnight and they gave us one hour to put together our suitcases again because the next day we were going some place else. The wake-up call was at 4:00 AM. Cn you imagine going to bed as early as 2:00 AM to wake up at 4:00 AM?

This pageant was something else, and if I tried to tell you everything I would never finish, but be assured that I had 90% similar experience to what the girls are experiencing now. The only good thing about this pageant is that because of the bad experience we got closer among each other and became close friends with some of the girls and that made up for the moment, but not for everything else. I would NEVER go back to that pageant, not even if were I crazy! I am so happy that Amy is back home and released herself from all that stress. Give her my greetings and a big hug for you!"

Hasta ahora escribo porque no habia tenido la oportunidad de apreciar el concurso Miss Peru Universo 2008 en su totalidad, (puesto que vivo en USA y es dificil que llegue la

senal de panamericana aqui) pero ahora que acabo de ver las imagenes por youtube.com no puedo sino expresar mi humilde opinion que como la de muchos foristas pasara al

olvido seguramente.

Si, mi opinion y mi impotencia ante semejante acto, concuerdo totalmente con la conductora de espectaculos magaly medina la cual honestamente y sin pelos en la lengua les dijo

sus verdades a todo color y en vivo y en directo a los dizque animadores, coreografos, asesores y sobretodo miembros de la coorporacion a cargo de la realizacion de dicho

concursete.

Como muchos de uds. admiro la belleza peruana y quiero mucho a mi pais y me molesta como vamos de mal en peor en muchos sentidos y la organizacion de eventos se suma a

la lista.

Dejando de lado la eleccion propiamente de karol Castillo (la cual es circunstancial, lo explicare lineas abajo) vamos al trabajo de produccion, ambientacion, vestuario, animacion y

demas.

1.- Demasiada iluminacion : debieron haber ambientado mejor el escenario, cambios para el traje de bano y noche, cambios de luz y algo mas bonito a fin de cuentas.

2.- Pasarella : Yo admiro profundamente a Deborah Sulca y puedo aceptar que se imiten lo bueno de ella, pero porque tenian que imitar el disfuerzo, morisquetas y aspavientos y

todas, eso guardenlo para la Miss Peru en el momento de las preliminares en Miss Universo, a los org. de este y a Donal Trump, le fascina esas cosas (Alicia MAchado, Amelia

Vega, Denise Quinones, Zuleyka Rivera, etc.)

3.- Si van a usar pareo (copia burda y prostituida de Miss Universo) entonces se usa bikini y sin banda, (sino acabaran como Miss Tumbes, con la banda en las rodillas, o como

Miss Tacna que modelo en baby-doll la mitad de la pasarella, ya que no pudo retirar su pareo a tiempo)

Ademas de la musica super mal escogida para esta nota de la competencia, (si vas a poner a las chicas a caminar o mas bien bailar con dinamismo, elige una salsa o por ultimo un

merengue o reggaeton elegante, agil y rapido : como el chacha de MU 2006)

4.- Los amimadores : Y luego se preguntan porque traemos animadores del extranjero???? ya vieron lo que sucede con el valor nacional?? Magaly ya dijo esa parte asi que no

caere en repeticiones, pero concuerdo con ella en un 100%

5.- Preguntas : Las mismas de todos los anos, caray que "las chicas no son profesionales exitosas???" entonces pregunteles algo bueno pues, como lo hacen en USA, o algunas

de las preguntas de Miss Venezuela, que a veces son originales.

La pregunta de Karol ha echo ganar a Marina Mora en 2001 a la propia Deborah en 2005, Fiorella Vinas en 2006 y a la mitad de las misses peru de la historia, eso sin contar las

ediciones de otros paises que lo largo de los anos han formulado la misma pregunta opteniendo la misma respuesta.

Esto hace el concurso tonto, aburrido, paporreta, parece discursito politico barato....

AHORA SI KAROL CASTILLO !!!!!!!!

Si gano o no gano a dedo o con vara, a las postres ya no importa, y a fin de cuentas a pesar de que en mi ranking personal la tenia en puesto casi 10 de este MPU, no concuerdo

con la gente que la insulta y se mofa y le aplican sobrenombres.

En principio, El Miss Universo, concurso al cual ira, ha cambiado muchisimo en los ultimos anos, dando cada vez mas sorpresas y variantes que lo hacen en un 50% impredecible...

Chicas que lo tenian todo para GANAR! no entran ni al TOP 15 y otras por las que uno no da ni un quinto y dan pena y hasta risas al bajar del avion, acaban en TOP 10 o top 5.

para muestras varios botones :

1996 = llega a ser virreina Aruba (cuerpo de vedette, muelona y con el disfuerzo, morisquetas y aspavientos que tanto gustan alla en MU) El salvador se cuela en TOP 10 (bajita y

mal traje de noche, pero buena oratoria), y entra Peru a Top 10 (con natalie sacco que me cayo la boca en ese tiempo, yo francamente no pense que entraria, anyway, un orgullo

nacional)

No entran Chipre, Estonia, South Africa, Rumania, y Filipinas (que estaban increibles)

1997 = Gana la china fea de USA, y la desabrida de Suecia a TOP 10, asi como la Italiana Denny Mendez (que se cuela en el TOP 6 por su escandalo al momento de ganar Miss

Italia)

No entra Filipinas, (que estaba mucho mejor y gano Miss Fotogenia)

1998 = Entra South Africa (de facciones toscas), y Puerto Rico queda 3ra (igualita a Liesel Holler)

Y no entra Finlandia (buenisima) y en latinas Argentina (preciosa top model) y Paraguay (una chica bonita, nadie puede decir que esta pais no intento desde mucho antes de 2004

de clasificar)

1999 = Entra en TOP 10 India y Ghana (sobrepeso y cara de dona pepa respectivamente)

No clasifica Panama (que lo tenia todo)

2002 = No se como Albania entra (usando traje de bano entero),

dejando fuera a la simpatica de Holanda y a la anfitriona Puerto rico

2003 = Tienen que abrir a 15 para que entren USA (y no se pierda el rating) y Venezuela (que llego con mas polemica que con belleza al MU) eso a la larga nos perjudico ya que

nuestra Claudia habia entrado como novena es decir si hubieran sido 10 y standares iguales a los anos anteriores, Claudia arrasaba en traje de bano y pasaba a la pregunta y otro hubiera sido el

cantar.

Asimismo que dejaron afuera a Espana y Mexico (que merecian entrar).

2004 = entra a TOP 15 Costa Rica, Mexico y Angola (caballota, expresion dura y otra dona pepa respectivamente)

y no clasifica Ucrania y Turquia (que tenian de todo), Venezuela, Suecia y Espana.

2005 = entra Indonesia (chata, fea y traje de bano entero), Noruega (sosa, ojerosa y premio de consolacion por ser medio Thai) , Trinidad/Tobago (simplona) y (la regordeta

cahetona) de USA,

dejando atras a Antigua & Barbuda, Shermain Jeremy (la mejor morena en MU que he visto en mi vida)

2006 = Entra Dinamarca (doble de Paris Hilton), Argentina (me recuerda a miss arequipa 2008) y Brazil (muy sosa), Ethiopia (horrible narizota), Hungria (con una expresion que ni

ella lo creyo), Tailandia (consuelo o compensacion del ano pasado) y Trinidad/Tobago (feo rostro)

Y no entra Nicaragua (que demostro despues que si tenia pasta de Miss), ni Espana (una los mejores espanolas de toda la historia)

2007 = Entra Nicaragua (contra todo pronostico, muy grata sorpresa, con garra tipo la sulca y los disfuerzos y morizquetas que la llevan a TOP 10), Tanzania (linda sorpresa, una

calva, creo que la primera en finales en los anales de la historia de MU), Czech Rep., Denmark, Slovenia, Thailand y Ukraine (relleno las 5, pero gracias a Dios que el jurado final lo

noto y las expulso al toque)

No entran Uruguay (que tenia garra, talla, garbo y muy buena preliminar), Paraguay (quien tenia todo, pero se junto mucho con jimenita y se puso a cantar a toda hora y a hablar de

lo religiosa que era y la cago) y Guatemala (buena oratoria y una excelente opcion desaprovechada).

En el caso especifico de Karol, es una mezcla entre Wendy Salgado de Honduras 2007 (los hoyuelitos y la sonrisa) y la ex-MU 2006 Zuleyka (por las operaciones), osea tiene 50%

de clasificar y 50% de NO, como todas, jejeje

Y si tiene operaciones, que chu..pis, si la van a mejorar no impota, que varias misses las tienen y de eso no se salva ni maju.

Ya en serio, creo que hemos sido muy duros con karol, vamos a que bueno, es Miss peru y ya, apoyemosla, que nos queda, fea no es!

Feas, hemos tenido ! 1992, 1997 y 2000, alli fuimos a perder!, yo ni siquiera vi el concurso esos anos de la verguenza, los grabe y los vi dos dias despues, jejeje

Con respecto a la franquizia de Miss Universo en el Peru, hay dos soluciones.

01.- Aunque a veces Papo exagera, al cesar lo que es del cesar y a Jessica lo que es de Jessica, realmente fueron anos de esfuerzo, clase, dedicacion, elegancia y brotaron

chicas muy bien trabajadas que bueno, no hubos muchos resultados pero por lo menos esos anos el Miss Peru daba ganas de verlo, y no parecia Miss Bataclana de Quinta 2008

(como dice la urraca) JESSICA VUELVEEEE !!!

02.- O sino, Alguien averigue cuanto cuesta la franquizia y juntemos una chancha entre todos y hagamos un trabajo decente con las futuras generaciones de Misses del peru.

Yo me pongo con 5 mil dolares, se que no es mucho y no tengo las mas remota idea de cuanto cuesta, a lo mejor es mil veces mas, pero de poquito a poquito se llena el saquito!

Me despido no sin antes, decirles a todos gracias porque aunque a veces se ven una peleas de padre y sr mio aqui, todos compartimos una aficion....

Y a Karol, trata con garra lo mejor que puedas y NO te olvides ahora si del disfuerzo, morisquetas y aspavientos, que eso si les encanta a los gringos.

Y para magaly medina, que pregunto, quien les enseno a abrir la boca asi en un desfile de traje de bano???

pues fueron Alicia Machado, Amelia Vega, Denise Quinones, Shandi Finnessey, Zuleyka Rivera, Natália Guimarães, Xiomara Blandino, Deborah Sulca Cravero, Desirée Durán, Ali

"Jamas veremos a Maju en una pasarella asi..." (por supuesto que NO, por eso Maju fue Miss Mundo, pero no hubiera echo nada en Miss Universo)

Para ser Miss Universo tienes que ser a lo Thalia (coqueta, decidida, algo malcriada, y ser la nina buena y una dama a la hora de la pregunta) es bien dificil.

Peru ha enviado 55 chicas y solo 15 lograron puestos en semifinales y solo una nos trajo lo que queriamos.

Eso es todo amigos !

cuando vi el certamen del miss universo, me llamo mucha la atencion las poses y movimientos de las chicas participantes, y es que yo habia visto ya esas posturas en un certamen muy gracioso llamado Miss Chanfainita que Youtube muestra entre los miles de videos, y me tome la paciencia de buscar, bajar y subir los videos que pude encontrar, ya que habian mas soobre el travesti de nombre ROBINSON, que la parecer ya han sacado de la web. aqui les dejo 2 videitos q pude encontrar. OSLO, Noruega - La rubia Lisa-Mari Moen Junge, quien fue coronada -Froken Norge 2007- representando a su nacion en el concurso Miss Mundo 2007, no ha sido aceptada por la Organizacion Miss Universo como la representante nordica para Miss Universo 2008. La razon es que su sucesora ya ha sido elegida, se trata de otra rubia: Lene Egeli.

Lene Egeli por contrato debe participar primero en Miss Mundo 2008, ya que la directora Julia Morley quiere a la reina titular en su certamen y no a segundonas; por ello la Organizacion Froken Norge decidio organizar un nuevo y exclusivo concurso nacional para Miss Universo: se trata del evento provisional llamado Miss Noruega Universo 2008.

Todo esto nos hace recordar cuando Martina Thorogood como virreina mundial 1999, habia firmado un contrato con la organizacion Miss Mundo, por lo tanto no podia competir en Miss Universo, como se habia planeado previamente. Osmel Sousa y su equipo realizaron un concurso relampago llamado "Miss Republica Bolivariana de Venezuela" para seleccionar una delegada para Miss Universo 2000.

El evento provisional llamado -Miss Noruega Universo 2008- tendra lugar el proximo 31 de mayo, y 10 finalistas del concurso Norge Froken 2007-2008 fueron seleccionadas para competir.

Noruega ha ganado el titulo de Miss Universo una sola vez, en 1990, cuando la bella pelirroja Mona Grudt fue coronada en Hollywood, California.

En cuanto a Lisa-Mari, los organizadores decidieron que representara a Noruega en Miss Internacional 2008, en Macao.

Aqui pongo el video de la participacion de Olga Zumaran (puesto 11 y no 5 como muchos dicen y creo que eso lo dijo tambien ella) en la noche final de Miss Universo 1978. Si hubiera tenido preparacion de seguro hubiera llegado mas alto y no nos hubiera causado verguenza con esa presentacion tan pobre en la noche final: completamente nerviosa, insegura, pesima pasarela, y pesima entrevista con Bob Barker (solo dijo dos frases), para mi la peor entrevista de una semifinalista peruana en Miss Universo en la epoca que entrevistaban a las semifinalistas en la noche final.

Aqui ponga las capturas de las semifinalistas del concurso Miss Universo 1978 realizado en Mexico. Aqui vemos claramente que Olga Zumaran no quedo en el quinto lugar como dicen erroneamente los medios sino en el PUESTO 11. Con una pesima autopresentacion, terrible entrevista personal, un tropezon en traje de noche. Una lastima, si ella hubiera tenido preparacion hubiera llegado mas alto ya que era una las fuertes favoritas en Mexico
Tambien vemos como cambiaron los lugares de las 5 primeras luego de la pregunta final. Que si no hubiera habido pregunta final la ganadora hubiera sido Miss USA.

María Teresa Rodríguez quiere hacer lo que no lograron los chinos, los franceses ni los estadounidenses: conquistar Vietnam.

La nueva Miss Costa Rica representará la belleza nacional en ese país del sudeste asiático cuando concurse en Miss Universo, el próximo 15 de julio.

Nunca el viaje le pareció tan lejano como cuando sostenía la mano de Marilyn Marín... ellas eran las últimas en el concurso tico.

Fueron segundo eternos y angustiantes, hasta que Marilín Gamboa pronunció el nombre de su contrincante como primera finalista, convirtiendo a María Teresa en la nueva soberana de la belleza tica.

Hasta ese momento esta joven de 21 años y estudiante de publicidad pudo respirar tranquila, el camino no había sido nada fácil...

Tenía la presión de haber ganado cuatro coronas en forma consecutiva, perder a estas alturas sería un descalabro difícil de superar.

Rodríguez se dio a conocer en el 2003, su año más productivo: fue Miss Teen Costa Rica, viajó a Ecuador y allí ganó el Miss Teen Internacional y posteriormente en Las Vegas, Estados Unidos, el Miss Dream Girl of the Year.

Ser señalada este año como la favorita era un gran peso sobre sus espaldas.

En febrero del 2007, cuando ganó el título de Miss Pacífico, en Mazatlán, México, esta reina contó su sueño de ser Miss Costa Rica en una entrevista con Al Día.

Esto levantó todo un polvorín de críticas e insultos en contra de Rodríguez. Algunos foristas del sitio Reinas de Costa Rica se dedicaron durante semanas a decirle las razones por las cuales, según ellos, debía desistir. Le decían “fea”, “gorda” y “corriente”.

“Esos comentarios negativos me hicieron más fuerte, me impulsaron a luchar más por alcanzar la corona. No pudieron alejarme de mi sueño, más bien se los agradezco, les doy las gracias, porque le puse el doble”, comentó Rodríguez desde su casa, en La Guácima de Alajuela.

Tampoco un asalto un día antes del concurso pudo con la voluntad de la trigueña: un ladrón le quebró la ventana del pasajero de su carro y se le robó el bolso, en el cual llevaba todo su maquillaje y su amuleto de la buena suerte... que al final no necesitó.

Nada pudo apagar su hermosa sonrisa. Su paso seguro y su amplia trayectoria la hicieron merecedora de la corona nacional, el pasado 11 de abril, en el Auditorio Nacional del Museo de los Niños (Centro Costarricense de la Ciencia y la Cultura).

En la mira

Falta muy poco para que “Tere” –como le dicen sus amigos– viaje a Miss Universo, y sabe que ese tiempo es oro. “De inmediato me metí con una nutricionista y a intensificar mi trabajo en el gimnasio”, explica. “Quiero pulirme en todo sentido, caminar mejor sobre la pasarela, tonificar mi cuerpo y ser más segura”.

Miss Costa Rica no sabe qué se siente perder en un certamen de belleza, así que de verdad tiene en su mente ganar este concurso mundial. Soñar no cuesta nada.

“Nunca pienso en forma negativa, uno es un imán y lo que uno piensa se materializa. Si uno desea algo realmente y se lo cree, es posible realizarlo. Yo quiero hacer un muy buen papel en Miss Universo”.

En estos momentos está viendo qué tipo de vestuario le dará Teletica y cuánto tendrá que invertir.

“Ya me he hecho una idea de cuánta ropa tengo que llevar, pues si no quiero repetir nada en un mes, que es lo que dura el certamen, tengo que acomodarme muy bien”.

Sus camanances iluminan e inyectan energía cada vez que sonríe. Ojalá esa sonrisa se repita para Costa Rica cuando ella figure en Miss Universo.

4/11 - Miss Peru is the first Latin beauty to be crowned Miss Tourism Queen International

Zhengzhou, CHINA - In one of the most impressive pageant productions of all times, Miss Peru, Silvia Cornejo, ended up crowned Miss Tourism Queen International 2008. SIlvia is the first woman from the American continent to win this Grand Slam title.

The 1st runner-up was the hometown girl, Miss China, Tong He; Miss Canada, Sahar Biniaz, was the 2nd runner-up; Miss Montenegro, Dasa Zivkovic, was the third runner-up; and finally, Miss Japan, Akemi Fukumura, was the 4th runner-up.

Rounding out the group of 20 semifinalists, in the order they ranked (sent by MTQI Organization), were the candidates from Puerto Rico (6), Chile (7), Belarus (8), Greece (9), Rwanda (10), Czech Republic (11), Sweden (12), Ukraine (13), Cuba (14), Thailand (15), Romania (16), Ghana (17), Bali (18), Australia (19) and Angola (20) .

A native of Trujillo, the new Miss Tourism Queen International has a large experience in beauty pageants: she won the Miss Teen Americas title back in 2005, and was crowned Miss Peru World in 2006. In Poland, where she participated in Miss World, she was not even a semi-finalist. Shortly after, she participated in the Miss South America pageant, in Bolivia, and was one of the 6 finalists.

Journalists and photographers covering the pageant could not understand the non-inclusion of Miss Chile, the massive favorite for the crown, in the 'top 5'. Several other press favorites were also "left in the ice", not even making it to the Top 20.

Miss Peru, nonetheless, performed well throughout the night and earned her place on the top of the chart deservingly so. Congratulations to Silvia Cornejo, Miss Tourism Queen International 2008!

Miss Beleza Baiana não mais disputará o Miss Brasil Mundo

Recebi a sua mensagem sem surpresa. Economizamos tempo. Inicialmente é preciso esclarecer alguns fatos:

- “Não fui deixado de lado pela Gaeta”, como você disse. E sim, me neguei a assinar um contrato que julguei inconveniente e mandei uma carta desistindo de ser o representante da empresa aqui na Bahia.

- Faço o concurso por gostar do evento, por paixão, e não para ter lucro. Não vivo disso.

- Fui para o Miss Mundo Brasil atendendo a um convite seu, porque acreditava no seu trabalho e imaginava que estaríamos inaugurando uma nova era nos concursos de miss no Brasil.

O Miss Beleza Baiana é hoje o maior e o mais respeitado concurso de beleza da Bahia, com credibilidade, sucesso, organização e sobretudo nível excelente de candidatas. Jane Borges e Lea Kerkoff vieram ao meu concurso por oferecimento seu. Não fiz nenhum convite. Foi você quem sugeriu que elas viessem, desde quando eu oferecesse passagens aéreas, alimentação e hospedagem, o que eu fiz. E para quê? Elas “abrilhantaram” o evento? Trouxeram mais público e mais prestígio? As duas tiveram um tratamento vip, fiz a minha parte. E devo dizer que houve constrangimento, pois muitas pessoas se acercavam de mim para perguntar como Juliana Pina Mendonça tinha perdido o Miss Brasil para Jane Borges. E eu explicava que eram concursos diferentes. Aliás, em 2004, a minha candidata Karoline Araújo de Souza (Miss Simões Filho e Miss Bahia) já tinha derrotado Jane no Miss Brasil (só para você sentir o nível das minhas misses).

E por que eu teria que colocar Lea no júri? O que isso tem de estranho? Ela pode testemunhar a lisura do nosso evento, onde não fazemos um leilão de notas, onde não há uma loteria. Todos sabem que auditoria e publicação de boletins não dão credibilidade a um resultado de concurso de miss. Basta montar o júri, você sabe muito bem disso, já que se diz um missólogo. O nosso júri foi de alto nível, de gabarito, com pessoas de respeito, representativas da sociedade baiana, onde cada um colocava um X nas suas 10 escolhidas para semifinalistas. A partir daí, depois das entrevistas, cada jurado colocava outro X nas suas escolhidas para as 5 finalistas. E depois apenas um X na sua escolhida para o primeiro lugar. Esse sistema é para evitar fraude, que um júri “montado” (como você deve saber bem) possa favorecer a candidata A ou B ou derrotar a candidata C ou D. O sistema de nota é extremamente injusto. Além do que, na presidência do júri estava o Dr. Ivanilton Santos da Silva, Juiz de Direito em Salvador, que é o pai de Halina Santos, a Miss Bahia 2000 (também candidata minha), que decide qualquer empate, segundo o nosso regulamento. Em 2006, o presidente do júri foi o Dr. Dinailton Oliveira, o presidente da OAB-BA. Quando o júri do Miss Brasil Mundo vai contar com o presidente da OAB? Portanto, caro missólogo, nada de estranho estaria no fato de Lea Kerkoff não ser jurada. Mas, mesmo assim, apenas de ela não ser personalidade suficiente para justificar tal honra, a colocamos no júri sim, e ela escolheu ainda o melhor vestido de noite.

Você diz que divulgou o meu concurso. Não terá sido o contrário? Você chegou anunciando o Miss Mundo Brasil como a salvação da lavoura. Criou grande expectativa, prometeu um concurso moderno, trazendo a Miss Mundo etc. E o que vimos em 2006? As informações que eu tenho não são boas. Mas mesmo assim acreditei nas suas promessas e quis ir em 2007, imaginando que os erros se deviam ao amadorismo de marinheiros de primeira viagem. Paguei, literalmente, para ver. Lembre-se que somente Bahia, Paraná e São Paulo escolheram candidata para o Miss Brasil Mundo em concurso. Todos os outros estados estavam representados por biônicas, a grande maioria nem conhecia o estado que representava. E a grande maioria delas eram perdedoras dos concursos da Gaeta. Como pode um concurso nacional que quer se firmar somente eleger refugo dos outros? E que nível, Henrique! As suas misses, na grande maioria, não eram tão belas mesmo. Algumas ali eu nem aceitaria no Miss Beleza Baiana. E acreditar que elas disputavam um título nacional??? E que você ainda acha que o nível do seu concurso é o melhor?

Quando Lea esteve aqui se surpreendeu com o nível do meu concurso. E, de brincadeira, eu disse a ela que vocês me deviam um concurso ainda melhor que o meu, já que o dela era o “Miss Brasil Mundo”. Perguntei a ela que tal a gente fazer um MBM aqui em Salvador, naquele teatro? Ela me respondeu que não tinha condições, pois o teatro era pequeno e o Miss Brasil merecia coisa melhor, algo mais grandioso. Ora, não foi o que eu vi em Barueri. O seu parecia mais um concurso de interior subdesenvolvido. O teatro pequeno, parecia mais de colégio. Era aquela a grandeza que Lea falava? Sem público, sem divulgação, a cidade não prestigiou o evento, ou seja, desse jeito, meu caro, já já você perde essa franquia. E o pior de tudo: que coquetel era aquele? Que baile de coroação era aquele? Nenhuma miss merece um tratamento daquele. Nem água tinha no tal “baile de coroação”. Uma vergonha. Amadorismo puro. Diga-se de passagem que o teatro que Lea não gostou aqui em Salvador tem capacidade para 550 lugares e está localizado num dos mais belos edifícios modernos do Brasil, todo de vidro e aço, na área nobre da cidade. Um luxo. E o que dizer do “teatro de Barueri”? E cadê a prometida transmissão da TV? E a Miss Mundo com a terceira colocada, perderam o vôo que as traria ao Brasil? Ora... só promessas e muita lábia.

Nos meus concursos as minhas candidatas têm tratamento vip. Pergunte a qualquer uma delas como é esse tratamento, como são os jantares, os almoços, a programação, a preparação de cada uma dessas meninas. Todas querem voltar para participar no ano seguinte. Você poderia vir assistir a um concurso meu para ver como se faz um concurso de miss (isso não é um convite, entenda!). E um baile é um baile, não aquele arremedo que existiu em Barueri. Voltei envergonhado por ter ido ao seu “espetáculo”. Eu não mereço isso.

Quanto à desclassificação de Renata, não questiono, pois o júri é soberano. Vocês, organizares, que oferecem essa soberania. O que questiono é a coordenação do concurso (diretoria, apresentador, colaboradores etc) está julgando nas prévias. Isso é transparência? E pior, o que dizer de um jurado como aquele garotinho que provocou tantos problemas, que você sabe melhor que eu? O que o credenciava a ser jurado? Isso sim, é que é estranho. Estranhíssimo.

Paguei 4 mil reais pela participação de Renata. Esse valor foi extremamente caro para o nível do concurso, sem estrutura, sem beleza, sem apelo popular, sem local adequado, onde a cidade nem sabia do evento. E que nível de beleza! A grande maioria das candidatas, não tão belas, nem eram dos estados e o pior: somente eu, Paraná e São Paulo fizemos concursos. O resto biônicas, que pagaram quanto? 1.000? 2.000? Sei muito bem quanto cada uma pagou. Você devia era ter orgulho de ter uma candidata como a da Bahia e eleita num concurso de grande porte que sua diretora e sua miss presenciaram. O seu não chega nem aos pés. Como você queria que eu pagasse 5 mil, se muitas ali pagaram muito menos que isso? Que matemática é essa? Jamais eu aceitaria pagar essa quantia exorbitante. 4 mil já foi caro demais. Eu, com o nível do meu concurso e da minha candidata, era que devia ter pago menos. Não o contrário. É premiar a desorganização, já que você promete muita coisa e não cumpre.

Quanto a Renata, você não tinha mesmo que ajudá-la a se classificar. Aliás, dirigente não tem que fazer isso. Quem se preocupa com essas coisas se esquece de fazer um concurso bom. O que você não devia era prejudicá-la. Vai comparar a beleza da baiana com a paraense, que ela empatou em 16º lugar? Com a pernambucana que ficou nas finalistas, de rosto lindo, mas baixinha e gordinha? Com a que representou Sergipe? Com a gaúcha? O único páreo ali para Renata era a catarinense. Só.

Ainda bem que não mandei candidato para o Mister. Para quê? Para me queimar, num concurso que deixou muito a desejar pelo vi na internet? E pagar uma franquia tão cara para ter o mesmo tratamento de Barueri? A mesma “organização”?

Espero sim que você cumpra a sua PALAVRA, pois o seu compromisso é com Renata. Você já tinha prometido enviá-la para Taiwan, para o Miss Global. Pediu passaporte, mandou ela se preparar e não deu satisfação. Agora anuncia que ela irá para a China. Espero que você tenha PALAVRA. Quem viver verá!

Também lhe desejo boa sorte e que você consiga melhorar a sua imagem nesse meio de concursos de beleza, pois você sobrevive deles, e não eu. Faço o concurso por amor, porque gosto. Tenho a minha profissão, sou competente e graças a Deus tenho muito sucesso. Com quem você já não teve problema? Você sabe o que dizem de você? E o pior nem é isso, é o que você diz dos outros, principalmente de pessoa que até dias atrás fazia parte da sua equipe no Miss Brasil Mundo.

Agradeço-lhe por ter se antecipado, pois eu já tinha decidido não mais participar dos seus circos. Só fiz perder.

Prezado Alfredo,

Quando você nos procurou porque havia sido deixado de lado pela Gaeta, te recebemos muito bem, de braços abertos mesmo. Sempre tive simpatia por ti e acreditei no seu trabalho. No ano passado mandamos a Jane para a Bahia sem cobrar cachê (quando até aconteceu algo estranho, Lea, diretora do concurso, sequer foi colocada no juri), divulgamos, demos todo o apoio do mundo.

Chegou o Miss Brasil Mundo, Renata era sem dúvida nenhuma belíssima, mas chegou a São Paulo totalmente despreparada, fisicamente e na questão de entrevista. Entrou nas 16 "raspando" , mas entrou. Ainda assim, pra continuar a dar força a vocês, prometi mandá-la a um concurso lá fora (ela está confirmada no Miss Leisure World, na China, em junho e manterei minha palavra).

Você me pediu ano passado mais tempo pra pagar a franquia, concedi. Ainda assim ficaram faltando $1000.

No começo de janeiro conversamos, te disse que não precisaria pagar os $1000 desde que nos mandasse o Mister Bahia com a franquia de $3000. Você concordou e me deu sua palavra que o faria. Não mandou, SEQUER ME DEU UMA SATISFAÇÃO.

Além disso, fiquei sabendo de vários comentários que circularam na internet falando que havíamos "garfado" a Renata, que o resultado não foi justo etc, quando na verdade fizemos de tudo para ajudá-la e ainda garantimos participação dela em um concurso internacional.

A Carla agora cuida das franquias, e ela tem conversado com outro pessoal que já está comprometido a fazer Miss e Mister, com contrato assinado, tudo certinho.

Eu por um lado lamento, porque tenho simpatia por ti e de coração desejo só coisas boas para você e seus eventos, mas Alfredo, existe algo que é PALAVRA que prezo muito. Tudo o que me comprometi contigo, cumpri. Já você, não. Não tivemos Mister Bahia, e pior, nem uma palavra sua, nem uma satisfação. Foi a gota d'água.

Ao contrário da Gaeta, estou te comunicando claramente os motivos que nos levaram a tomar essa decisão.

Te desejo sucesso no futuro.

BEWARE : Mark Ancheta, the organizer of the revived Miss Young International pageant, is at it again. It wasn't enough that he staged a poorly produced pageant in Manila last year with only ten contestants and used different aliases to con gullible national directors into sending delegates. This time, he managed to con Taiwanese officials to hold the third year of his pageant to be held in Taipei from October 7th to 28th. This information was forwarded to me by a national director who had received an invitation to send a delegate to the pageant, but after doing thorough research, this director discovered that Ancheta and his company are allies with John Singh, the most evil man in the pageant world. Last year's Miss Bikini World (MBW) pageant was held in Taiwan. Singh owns the MBW trademark, but I imagine that in order to save face and to maintain the title of the pageant, he might have "sold" the copyright to Ancheta's group who eventually produced the MBW 2006 pageant which was won by Hungary's Anita Horvath. My impression - that the reason the Taiwanese got suckered in by Ancheta into hosting Miss Young International - is because Taiwan is desperately imitating China into establishing itself as a major international pageant venue.

I remember, last year's Miss Young International website looked professional and decent. But what happened now? Take a look at the current site, http://missyounginternational.net/. It screams "cheap" and "tacky." - CRITICAL BEAUTY.COM

A DUBIOUS PAGEANT : Last November, a Miss Young International 2006 pageant took place in Manila and a young woman from Venezuela, Jessica Chaya, was crowned. Last month, a posting on several message boards by one "Aileen Evangelista" suggested that Chaya was "dismissed... for breach of contract because she has failed to fulfill the duties required of the title." She was supposedly replaced by the first runner-up Estefany Tomaselly of Ecuador, according to Mark Ancheta, the president of Elite Productions that organized the pageant.

I initially mentioned this pageant in my 11.27.2006 Journal; instead of "Mark Ancheta," I had mentioned "Romulo Ancheta," who appears to be the brother of Ronalyn Ancheta, whom he had handpicked as the "outgoing" Miss Young International, even though the last legitimately produced MYI pageant occurred in 1983 and won by Norway's Ana Sofie Falkenaas.

***ACTUALLY, she PERSONALLY CROWNED HER SISTER AS MISS YOUNG INTERNATIONAL 2005, JESSICA CHAYA RESIGNED BECAUSE THE PAGEANT ORGANIZER DID NOT GAVE HER PRIZES AS A WINNER, AND NOW, Vanasa Wongbuntree (AGAIN) WILL BE RELINQUISHING HER CROWN BECAUSE SHE WAS NOT GIVEN ANY PRIZES AT ALL
