The political issue here is not whether or not this woman should live or die, the issue is whether or not the Federal government should have become involved. If you're a Republican, you should be saying "no" to bigger government, and "no" to Federal Court intervention.

I used to think that you couldn't change the rules of the game when it looked like things weren't going to go your way. I thought you just tried harder. I was wrong. The Republicans in the 109th Congress have done this repeatedly. Tom DeLay is famous for it. He didn't like the ratio of Texas Democrats to Republicans representatives in Congress, so he redrew the districts to favor Republicans and pushed it through the STATE legislature. When it looked like he may be INDICTED, he pushed through a change to long standing legislation to make sure he wouldn't have to lose his leadership position if he were in fact INDICTED. And now this. Maybe this iteration of Congressional Republicans should break ranks and form an new party so that they don't have to trample all over the fundamental ideals of mine. Barry Goldwater would turn over in his grave to see his party dictate from Washington DC, the outcomes of family matters hundreds or thousands of miles away.
