This may be going off on a tangent, but if these drug allegations prove to be based in fact, I don't really have much sympathy for Rush, although I agree with most of his political ideas. It kind of reminds me of Bill Bennett of "Book of Virtues" fame, or Bill Clinton. If you choose to live in a glass house (and it is ALWAYS a choice), You should dress in the basement. Don't come out and villanize something you're "guilty" of yourself. Most of the things these guys are accused of are arguable vices anyway with the exception of perjury in WJC's case. It's almost like these virtuous gurus decide to go public with their virtuosity maybe in the hopes that they'll be able to live by those standards. "Maybe if I get married, I'll be able to stop cheating on my girlfriend." "If I join a gym, maybe I'll actually work out." "The best way to cleanse myself of past transgressions is to run for Governor of California." Right. So I guess the best thing for these hypocritical public figures (who bring it on themselves by making hypocrisy itself a sin) to do is to join the modern day Flagellant Brahren and go into rehab or quit their post or wear the scarlet letter and parade themselves on the airwaves in an apologetic book tour or People Magazine cover signing. Here's a Fox News Alert Rush and Bill and Bill, the vices you're guilty of are not that damnable, but you've made them evil incarnate by naming them as such yourselves! You've not only allowed the knee jerk media to decide for people what is acceptable, you've fed the fire by being a part of that manipulation of the public mind. I suggest that everyone take a cue from Senator Rick Santorum. Say what you mean, mean what you say, and if someone thinks that what you say is politically incorrect, tell them to get bent. Get bent Disney. Get bent ESPN. Get bent extreme Christian Right. Get bent Ken Starr.
