I see another piece of the Spitfire which Time Team dug up in France is listed on eBay again.I have that program on tape and before the dig the RAF representive says quite clearly that he is happy for the dig to take place as long as no part of the aircraft is used for monetary gain.

Did anyone else see Ken Ellis's forward in the January FlyPast magazine or the letters of agreement in the following issues? it seems I'm not the only one who regards those who loot from crash sites and who sell parts from fatal crashes as the lowest form of life.

If things carry on the way they are now in another twenty years there won't be anything left on most high ground sites and like the tons of material which has already been taken what is removed will simply disappear into the private collections of individuals or recovery groups who then either sell it,scrap it or won't let anyone see it.

The BAAC seem unwilling to get their act together and work with the National parks and other proper archeaological bodies to ensure sites are protected and to admit that often the best sort of preservation for a site is in-situ.another point I'd like to raise is where are all the parts which were recovered by groups, including those belonging to the BAAC,over the last thirty years? why can't all BAAC member groups produce a list of exactly what they hold and from which sites? I have many old group reports dating from the 1970's and 80's which give specific details of groups removing parts from sites yet if asked now many of these groups can't/won't say where those parts are.afterall the crash sites are part of our national heritage and as such don't belong to one individual or group to possess and decide who sees parts from a site and who dosen't or to sell parts for their own gain.

I know there will be those who will not agree with what I have said but just think about it,if somone had enough sense to sort out the mess that exists now so much more could be learned from crash sites without the disrespectful gung ho approach which is is currently taken.
