Whilst browsing my name i came across your site. How well do i remember the day in '91 of my climbing accident on Esk Butress in upper eskdale. It continues to this day to be a source of wonderment and amazement that it actuaaly happened and that we all survived.
I shan't go into too much detail here (unless promted) but it will be the day i will remember all my life, form the actual fall, to the noise of a chopper 30 feet above, the explosion of the blades hitting the rock, the vision of judith being tossed around like a rag doll behind the chopper, the peculiar noise of the chopper minus parts of it's rotars, the defining silence after it ditched, and finally, what has to be for me the piece de resistance (sic).
After being winched into another helicopter, and having been administered morphine, i have this recollection of the casualty bag is was wrapped in being opened. A man in helmet and magnificent handle bar moustache and leather gloves patted my hand and said "sorry we are late, we've had a bit of trouble!" Fantastic.
I still climd, am a member of Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team, and have a massive regard for the crews. I met Pete Evans at the filming of the BBc 999 programme.
Great to see recognition of the unsung heroe's.

I have also climbed in fusilage gulley on Ben Eighe in Torridon where the tyre of the crashed Lancaster is still there, and has to be climbed over.

Regards,
Glenn Wilks
